Obituary for Joseph Louis Chafe

91 years, on May 13, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Devoted and loving husband of 55 years to late Elaine (nee Clayton). Loving father of Joanne Wright, Mark and Thu-Ha, Jane and Doug Moote, and Mike and Monica. Dear grandpa of Mikey, Caitlin, Jennifer, Michael, Rachel and Nova. Great-grandpa to Selah, Soren, Winslow, Teddy, Scarlett. Dear son of late Bridget (nee Bailey) and John Robert Chafe. Dear brother of Ray, Sr. Stella and predeceased by Ed, Ron, Bob, Mary, Bill, Tom, Mike, Bernie and Phonse. Dear brother-in-law of David and Betty and late Lanny and Harvey. Joe will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Joe dedicated many years to the Customs and Excise Union of Canada, serving as local president in Windsor as well as serving on the National Board of Directors. He fought tirelessly for workers’ rights and safety in the workplace and was always helping those in need. Joe’s life was filled with hockey, boxing, ping pong, baseball, golf, coaching sports, volunteering for the Kinsmen and Habitat for Humanity. His greatest passion has always been his family and his dear wife Elaine.

Cremation services were held. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Our Lady of the Atonement Church, (2940 Forest Glade Drive), for a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to the Families First, 1065 Lauzon Rd. 519-969-5841.
