Obituary for Vito Galifi

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Vito Galifi on May 13, 2023 at 59 years of age. He was a devoted husband and best friend to Mirella (nee Iannicello) for 35 years. The proudest father of Philip (Leesa), Alex (Angelika) and Nadia (Nicholas). Adored son of Filippo and Guiseppina Galifi. Loving brother to Frances Brown (David), Gasper (Maria) and Mary Anne Bergamo (Perry). The cherished son-in-law of Angelo and Emma Iannicello and a dear brother-in-law to Marcello Iannicello (Rosalba). ‘Zio Vito’ will forever be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both in Canada and Italy.

Vito retired after 30 plus years of dedicated service with the CBSA as an Enforcement Officer and was always eager to accept overseas assignments to broaden his horizons. Alongside his career, Vito was a successful entrepreneur who left an everlasting impact on many people and always saw opportunities rather than obstacles.

Vito had a true love for travel and physical activity which included running, cycling and skiing in different places around the world, especially the Dolomites. His passion for storytelling and sharing his home-made delicacies such as arancini made for many memorable Sunday lunches and morning cycling rides with his amici. Vito was always curious by nature and forever on a quest to discover new experiences and he found great joy in sharing memories with those he loved.

His love of life was only exceeded by his deep sense of pride he had for his children, often sharing anecdotes about their lives with anyone who would listen. Vito had a wonderful way of making everyone he encountered feel comfortable and valued with his big heart and charming personality. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile and will be dearly missed.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses in the CCU and ICU at WRH – Ouellette Campus. We will forever be grateful for your dedication to provide Vito with the utmost care.

If you so desire, donations to Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation – Cardiac Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
