Obituary for Blaise Octave Mayea

MAYEA, Blaise Octave, in his 90th year. Blaise was the most beloved husband and soulmate of Theresa (nee Nadeau) for over 66 years of devotion and fidelity. He and Theresa raised four cherished children: Denise and husband, Peter Hrastovec, Mike and his wife Patti, Greg and his wife, Anna, and Yvette and her husband, Bill Sztorc. He took immense pride in his treasured grandchildren: Jeffrey and his partner, Sarah, Andrea and her husband, Milan, Chrissy and her husband, John, Mark and his wife Michelle, Stephen and his partner Ashley, Tim and his partner, Courtney, Nicole and her husband, John, Bradley, Jenny and her partner, Daniel, and Aaron. And then there are the great-grandchildren who brought so many smiles to him, especially in this last year of his life: Patrick, Nina, Mara, Hudson, Aubrey, Luke, Lennon, Maeve, Olivia and, soon to arrive, Scarlett.
Son of the late Clifford and Seraphine (Soulliere), Blaise had many wonderful siblings: the late Donald and his wife, Mary Ann, Eleanor and her husband, Henry Major, the late Agnes and her late husband, Austin Renaud, Dolores and her late husband, Hector Lucier and the late Bill Chayer, the late Wilfrid and his late wife, Bernadette, Bernice and her late husband, Ray Seguin, and the late Doris Mayea. He was also the dear brother-in-law to Marguerite and the late Douglas White, whose only child, Joceline, along with her husband, John Petrasovic, were another “daughter and son” at his table. He had a ton of cherished nephews and nieces who loved to be with their “Uncle Blaise” and who rated him as one of the best, and with whom he enjoyed sharing laughs and songs at family get-togethers.
Blaise worked very hard in support of his family his entire life: a painter, a labourer, a dedicated “milkman” for Silverwood Dairies and, in his last career, a custodian for the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board where he was much admired and respected by teachers and students alike. He would go the extra mile and was known for his loyalty and trustworthiness. He aided his family with many projects: house and cottage construction, fence, shed and deck builds, and all sorts of repairs. If it was broken, Blaise could fix it. In his retirement, he made lots of things: birdhouses, tin can airplanes and cars, flower boxes, toy boxes, toy ovens and fridges and decorative bird carvings, all gifts for family and friends. He was selfless and caring and never griped or complained about anything or anyone. Despite the many silly “dad jokes” and shenanigans, he spoke wisely with his heart and his mind. Truly, his was a life well-lived. Blaise was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the Assumption Church Parish.
There were numerous caregivers who assisted Blaise from Amy’s Helping Hands, St. Elizabeth, and Para-med for whom the family is thankful. And the nurses and physicians at the Dr. Y. Emara Centre were extraordinary. But no one cared for Blaise better than his adoring Theresa whose remarkable example of affection and compassion is a living testament for all to embrace and to follow.
If you so desire, donations to the Hospice of Windsor or London Health Sciences Centre Liver Transplant Unit would be appreciated by the family.
