Dear Myrna, Kasey and Riley, my family and I are so very saddened to hear the news of Alan’s passing. I had nice chats with him over the years while our daugters were in school at St Anne’s. Alan was a very nice guy and he was obviously a very fine and proud husband and father. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Alan holds a very special place in my psyche and heart. First and last, as a friend of depth, compassion and understanding. We shared many special times through the years, and I cannot believe how time, and connection, has slipped away. So many memories of Albion, and Sussex...more and more the longer I reflect. All share the common bond of connecting: walking and talking, Vaxing, late nights of thoughts and inner explorations and ponderings. I was so pleased to learn about the fulfillment he felt from his job, nurturing students, shaping minds and perspectives, and forging connections. In hindsight, his professorship was inevitable. I did not have the pleasure of knowing his family, but know how they enriched his life, and gave him joy and love. He is gone too soon, for those who loved and respected him, and his loss will be felt deeply. I can only wish peace and comfort for his family. Know that he was cherished.

Although we had sat through the same violin recitals for years--I first really got to know Alan at work. I was stepping into a new advising role with so much to learn. With his typical warmth and kindness he shared his experiences and helped me grow into that new position. Then a few years later, I got to know both him and Myrna as fellow parents of strong minded, talented teenage daughters. And the same warmth and kindness was even more in evidence. Here again was someone to compare notes with as we talked about instrument purchases and advising kids in choosing high schools. From that time on, their family became part of the 'village' that is helping to raise my girls. Part of the academic lifestyle is moving away from everyone you know, and making a new family where you land. I am so thankful that Alan and Myrna and their girls became part of our Windsor family. My deepest condolences, Shauna

Alan and I started at the University at the same time and i first met him during the faculty orientation sessions on campus. I was immediately struck by his kindness and how he was genuinely interested in the interests and opinions of others. While we worked in different areas, his scholarship was always widely visible across campus making a very significant contribution to the research environment and culture for us all. I am so thankful for his hard work with research ethics and in the behaviour, cognition and neuroscience program. My heart breaks for his family and close friends, my most sincere condolences. He will be missed.

Alan was one of my first supervisors. He introduced me to the research world. It is because of him I received my first federal research grant while I was an undergraduate student. I would not be where I am today had it not been for his guidance and support throughout my undergraduate career. Words cannot describe the shock and saddness I feel to hear of his passing. He made a significant impact on so many young minds and the research community, and I know he will be missed by many. My most sincere condolences.

As a fellow high school graduate of Alan's, I can attest that he has always been well liked and well thought of. It is a testament to his legacy as an amazing human being that he has left his imprint on so many from years past. My heart goes out to his entire Family. My hope is that strength and love will embrace you all as you travel this path and treasure his memory. So sad to see a beautiful life cut so short. My sincere condolences.
