Obituary for Albert "Bertie" Sankarlal
Albert passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on February 27, 2023 in Windsor, Ontario at the age of 89. Cherished husband of Sylvia nee Samlal for 61 years. Adored father of Debbie (Dave), Wayne (Shalini) and Lorelee. Proud papa of Joshua & Christopher Sankarlal and Madisen & Samuel (Sankarlal) Ireland.
Berts to more than a dozen in-laws, Uncle Bertie to countless nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters and brothers Ruby, Margaret, Marjory, Sybil, David and Krish, and reunited with his parents Andrew and Anantia.
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, he worked as a teacher and shopkeeper until immigrating in I969. In Canada, he excelled in his Real Estate career winning national awards.
An avid cook and master of the barbeque, he loved to entertain and no one ever left his home hungry or wanting for more. He was devoted to his family and lived to make their lives easier or better in any way he could. Albert enjoyed meeting new people and made everyone whether prince or pauper an instant friend.
His kindness was legendary and his absence will be felt not only by his family but also by the neighbourhood’s children and parents.
He was renowned for his beautiful singing voice, his opinions on the nightly news and his official status as armchair politician.
Albert’s love of people was equaled only by his love for God. He was active in his local church regardless of denomination. He frequently travelled to the Holy Land and was a Canadian ambassador for the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem.
He will be missed beyond measure and is loved beyond words.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 12 noon until time of service at 1 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Avenue, South Windsor. A livestream link of the service will be available here
