Obituary for Anne Marie Veronica Filbey (née Pook)

Our cherished matriarch Anne Marie was born on November 20, 1935 in London, Ontario to Fred and Redgon Pook. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 25th, 2024 at the age of 88.

Anne Marie attended St. Joseph’s College of Nursing in London, Ontario, where she received her nursing degree. There she made lifelong friends and organized nursing reunions for the next 60 years. She worked as head nurse at Villa Maria until her retirement.

Anne Marie is survived by her loving husband Joe, whom she married on June 20, 1959. She was a loving mother to her sons Brian, Richard, Stephen, Daniel and James. She warmly welcomed her daughters-in-law, Cindy, the late Mary Ellen (2018), Daisy Mak, Anne, and Kristen.

Proud Grandma to Sean (Sandy), Amanda (Nolan), Ryan, Renée (Spencer), Lauren (Scott), Lynaea, Andrew (Bridget), Alex (Kat), Chloe, Brenna (Noah), Kaelyn, Alyssa, and Teagan, and Great-Grandma to Cohen.

Whether it was cheering loudly at her grandsons’ hockey games, shopping or dim sum-ing with her granddaughters, she cherished her role as Grandma. Anne Marie loved fishing and cottage country and she and Joe often treated their extended family to northern cottage retreats where memories were built and strong family bonds forged. Queen of the road trip, she and Joe drove the continent multiple times to visit their sons’ families in Vancouver and Victoria. Anne Marie valued family above all else and imparted the importance of strong family traditions and unconditional love.

Extroverted and vivacious, Anne Marie had a large circle of friends. Over the years, she enjoyed playing bridge, curling, golfing and entertaining. She was secretary of Spirit of Windsor Questers. A life long learner, Anne Marie belonged to a book club and attended Unicom seminars regularly.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude for the exemplary care and compassion provided by the CTU medical staff and Dr. Jacobs at Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus. A very special thank you to Dr. Paul Ziter who has been the family’s physician for 45 years.

For those who wish memorial donations to the Windsor Regional Cancer Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Parish Prayers followed by a Eulogy to be shared at 7:30 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841. On Friday, March 1, 2024 family and friends are invited to gather directly at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 4401 Mt. Royal Drive, after 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass in Celebration of Anne Marie’s Life beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.

Carpe diem.
