Obituary for Augustine "Gus" Winters (formerly Winograd)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of Gus on November 2, 2023 at the age of 92.
Born on February 3, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, Gus was the cherished spouse of Patricia Winters (neé Assef) for 42 years. Loving father of David, Paul and Larry Winograd, Gilbert Winters (Kylie), Sonia McCollum (Ken), and Nelson Winters (Nicole). Dedicated stepfather to Mary Riberdy (Bob), Paul Kalyn, and James Kalyn (Ruth). Proud Grandpa of 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sisters Anita and Arlene.
A dedicated lifetime member of Rotary International, Gus had a long career as a Chartered Life Underwriter. A veteran of the Korean War, Gus was decorated with two purple heart medals. He was one of only 7 members of his 220-man unit that was fortunate enough to return home. He was an avid sports fan and a stamp collector since the age of 11. Above all, Gus was devoted to his family and his Catholic faith.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial visiting will take place at Families First Funeral Home in East Windsor on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 5 – 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Corpus Christi Church on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
