Obituary for Barbara (Bärbel) Maria Koch-Donga
Passed suddenly and unexpectedly on January 13, 2024, at The Windsor Regional Metropolitan Hospital at 74 years of age. Predeceased by her parents Josef and Louise Koch, and son Matthias Donga. Barbara was a loving and caring mother to son Jelle Donga and grandmother to Cassia, Chloe, Logan and Lucas.
She leaves behind many family members in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, and a community of friends on Pelee Island.
Barbara immigrated to Canada in 1974 and worked tirelessly with her family for many years at the family’s flower farm Donga Greenhouses in Leamington, and retail store The Flower Carriage at the old Windsor City Market. In later years she became a full-time resident of Pelee Island and was affectionately known as Barb the Weaver. Her love for fibre arts, nature, family and her friends defined her inspiration for living. She will be incredibly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial donations in Barb’s name can be made to The Hospice of Windsor Essex County or to The Pelee Island Bird Observatory.
At Barbara’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held on, Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at Families First East Windsor (1065 Lauzon Rd. 519-969-5841). A celebration of life and memorial will take place on Pelee Island, to be announced at a later date.
