Obituary for Blanche Emma Labute (nee Desjardins)

May 21, 1921-December 29, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and Mémé, in her 99th year of life. Loving mother of Robert (Bob), and Judith Shuel (Edwin “Ned”). Dear grandmother of Andrew, Natalie Meloche (Dave), Aimée Rathbone (John), Stacey Shuel, and the late Sara (1982). Beloved great-grandmother “Mémé” of Breanna, Emma, Ethan, Ben, Jack, Isla and Nora. Dear sister of Emelda “Dee Dee” Sylvestre (predeceased by Réne), and predeceased by her sisters Marguerite Martin (Joseph), Edna Ladouceur (Raymond), Marcella Sylvestre (Marcel), Jeanette Sylvestre (Roger), Madeleine Chauvin (Louis), Irene LeBoeuf (Maurice). Also predeceased by her parents Archille and Albertine (nee Campeau) Desjardins. Blanche will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Blanche was the first baby born on the day the Town of Tecumseh became incorporated on May 21, 1921. She was a life-long member of the CWL and St. Anne’s Parish. A heartfelt thank-you to the staff, caregivers and friends she made at La Chaumière. Blanche was an independent lady who loved to work in the garden of her home for 75 years.

A private family service was held and cremation has taken place.

If you so desire, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

A Celebration of Blanche’s life will be held at a later date.
