Obituary for Captain Thomas Thurston Gilbert

Tom was truly a happy and loved man who leaves behind, to miss him terribly, a large family that he adored. Moments after each birth, Tom held and fell in love with his grandchildren: Noah, Lauren and Siovan Gecelovsky and Megan and Neve Hudson. He loved all of his kids and the partners they brought into the family: Shannon Gilbert and Darin Coghill, Jacqueline Hudson and Paul Gecelovsky, David Hudson and Shelley Hudson(Gagne), and Stacey Gori (Gilbert) and Rick Gori, Karys and Kyah. Tom served in the US Navy for four years and then five years as an OPP officer, Essex Detachment, leaving to serve the community of Windsor as a professional firefighter for thirty-four years.
Tom loved to cut the grass and fuss with the yard and then hook up the tree swing for the babies, fire up the grill and pour the drinks for family and friends and entertain all summer. He and his best friend and love of his life, Connie, married for twenty-eight years, also enjoyed travel: cruises, boating, rv'ing and participating in three Navy reunions in Sacramento, Reno and high in the mountains of Colorado. Tom was proud of the Windsor firefighters, the OPP and his service in the Navy. He was proud of his family and his home. He bravely fought illness up to the end, with his wife and daughter and daughter in law by him constantly. He will be dearly missed but at last his battle is behind him.
The family wishes to thank, in addition to the lovely RNA's and PSW's on the Kingsville Unit at The Villages of St. Clair nursing home, Kelley from Hospice who made a world of difference to Tom and Connie and Shannon in Tom's final weeks.
