Obituary for Constance Pamela Gilbert (Hudson) (nee Wilson)

GILBERT (Hudson), Constance Pamela (nee Wilson)

Passed peacefully surrounded by family, January 10, 2023 after a life richly blessed with love and grace. She is the beloved mum of David Hudson and wife Shelley (Gagne) and Jacqueline Hudson and husband Paul Gecelovsky. She is the completely devoted and deliriously proud Baba of grandchildren Siovan, Lauren and Noah Gecelovsky and Neve and Megan Hudson and the cherished “Baba-in-law” of Dakota Legg and Andrea Puzigaca. Connie was blessed to have been loved dearly by two wonderful husbands: first, Laurence (Laurie) Hudson (2006) and later Thomas Gilbert (2019) and she has cherished the love of her dear friend Jack Fenton right up to the end of her life. She was the loving and doting daughter of the late Pamela and also Lewis Wilson and is predeceased by her dear sister Barbara (nee Wilson) Cotton (Barrie) in December 2020. Grieving the loss are siblings Jeff Wilson (Windsor), Jak Wilson (London), Beth (nee Wilson) Brown (Sarnia) and David Wilson and wife Shelly (nee McAlpine) (Barrie). She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Connie lived a life full of love and anyone whose journey intersected with hers for any period, experienced the warmth of her heart, the depth of her benevolence and the charm of her cheeky sense of humour. Her greatest hero and strongest influence was her own mother with whom she shared a close and richly fulfilling relationship and from whom she learned how to nurture others, how to enjoy simple pleasures and how to trust in the Lord’s strength. She has, in turn, passed on to her children and grandchildren an appreciation of what a gift it is to have people in your life to love and care for. Well done, Mum.

Her favourite place to spend a day was the garden of her home in South Windsor, her favourite company was her grandchildren and her favourite colour was aqua blue. She enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, hosting the family for events large and small, running up the 401 for plays at Stratford and in Toronto (Phantom and Butterfly being two of her favourites in TO) or through the tunnel for Tigers games, dinner at Los Galanes and concerts under the stars at PINE KNOB MUSIC THEATRE. Her favourite athletic event was Christmas shopping and her favourite cool down was wrapping presents. Also missing her are Anna’s Nursery in Kingsville and Homesense, both of whom may feel the pinch this quarter.

Mum rose to every significant challenge presented to her and she lives on in our hearts as an inspiration to us that God is faithful in all things, that He has His eye on the sparrow and that we CAN do it, even when we are certain that we cannot.

Heartfelt thanks from the family go out to Dr. Stephen Rukavina, his team and all of the heroic staff and volunteers of the Hospice of Windsor, to St. Elizabeth’s health services, especially Marissa (who was always a bright and encouraging light in our days), Megan and Steve and to Dr. Vincelli, a gifted and compassionate family doctor.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Windsor, St. Elizabeth’s Health Services and The Windsor Essex County Humane Society in Connie’s name would be greatly appreciated.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Connie’s Life will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Ciociaro Club, 3745 North Talbot Road, Oldcastle. Family and friends are invited for 2:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
