Obituary for David Andrew Joseph Johnston

After a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 24, 2022 at 85 years of age. Loving husband of Kirsten (nee Lyngholm) for 62 years. Adored and beloved father of Kevin (Dawn), Karl (Christine) and Karin. Devoted grandpa of Carissa (Scott), Stephanie (Sam), Kevin Jr., Charlie, Michael, Kayla, Ashley and great grandpa of Abigail and Aubrey. Dear brother of Jim (Sharon), the late John (the late Sue), Ellen (Paul), Ron and Leslie (Annie). Brother in law of Carole Meyer (the late Rick).

David retired from the City of Windsor Traffic and Engineering Department after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a life long Mason at GWL # 47 and R.A.M. Windsor Chapter # 71 and a member of the Windsor Squares Dancing Club. David was a gifted athlete from a young age with a passion for golf (with a hole-in-one to his credit), hockey, baseball, high school track and field, football and basketball. He graduated to coaching baseball, hockey and a passion for umpiring baseball. He had no greater pleasure than watching his grandchildren participate in sports. David loved to “putz” around the yard with his perfect lawn and plentiful garden then retire to his garage to enjoy a nice cigar. David touched many lives through sports and employment and will be fondly missed by many.

Thank you to UNIFOR (humanitarian crew) for giving him his independence back this past year to enjoy a cigar, LHIN especially Lisa Dunn, Bayshore and his many PSW’s, V.O.N., SafeGuard, Dr. Patrick Smith, Dr. Mathews, Hospice of Windsor and Dr. Bergeron, Dr. Kennette, P/A Tracey and PSW Denise, T2B, LiUNA!625 and the many nurses and administration staff who helped throughout the past 2 years. A special thank you to Paul Georgiou for always being there to help in a moments notice.

If you so desire, donations to the Hospice of Windsor, V.O.N. or the Windsor/Essex County Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.

Visitation Wednesday July 27, 2022 from 3 – 5 pm & 7 – 9 pm with a Masonic Service under the auspices of GWL # 47 at 7 pm at Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841.
