Obituary for Derek Rideout

Passed peacefully on January 11th, with his loving family by his side after a short battle with cancer. He was a devoted and loving husband of 51 years to Barbara (nee Broyd), a loving father to his 2 daughters, Christine Ricker and Danielle O’Connor (Mark). Proud Papa to Megan & Kate Ricker, Aidan, Wes, Jessica & Madison O’Connor. Dear brother to Cecil (Gail) Rideout and predeceased by siblings Mary, Joan and Pansy. Predeceased by parents Ken & Irene Rideout along with birth parents Henry & Myrtle Clarke of Corner Brook, NFLD. Derek had been enjoying retired life after investing over 45 years to his successful business partnership at Windsor Fire Equipment.

He enjoyed joking and having laughs with his buddies, playing Poker with the same guys for over 40 years, and travelling down south to the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Arizona with Barb for well-deserved rest and relaxation in the sun… but what truly put a smile on his face and in his heart was the quality time he spent with his beautiful wife, daughters, and grandchildren. Papa enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s dance, hockey, baseball and sports practices and events. His family was truly the sunshine in his life!
Derek was happy with the little things in life and never wanted or needed more than what was given to him.

He has requested no flowers to be sent, but would prefer donations be made to The Hospice of Windsor, where he was well cared for in his final days.

Visitation will be on Tuesday January 14, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a short service to follow at 4:00 p.m. held at FAMILIES FIRST, 1065 Lauzon Rd., East Windsor, 519-969-5841 with reception to follow (off-site). A private family burial will be held at a later date.

We encourage you to share some memories, photos, a joke Derek would have enjoyed, or to make a donation to Hospice of Windsor.
