When Your Beautiful Heart stopped beating, Our heart just broke in two,

Knowing that here on earth, There will never be another like you,

On February 3, 2021 Douglas Donald Mailloux’s beautiful heart stopped beating, taking his last breath at his home in Maidstone surrounded by his family. The Lord our God called him home into his blessed rest from all his labour. When God was making husbands as far as we can see, he made a special soulmate especially for me. He made a perfect gentleman, compassionate and kind, with more love and affection that you could ever wish to find. Doug passed peacefully with is one true love Margaret (nee Baines) at his side. They fell in love over 62 years ago and the next time they will meet is at heaven’s door where she will see him standing there and won’t be crying anymore. Marg will put her arms around him and kiss his smiling face, then the pieces of her broken heart will fall back into place.

There is no other love in the world, like the love a father has for his daughters. Doug loved his girls more than life itself. If we could write a story, it would be the greatest ever told of a kind and loving father who had a heart of gold. God was ready, but his loving children’s hearts were not. We know that his loving arms will be wrapped around his children Pam (Bill) Seney, Tammy (Rob) Wright and Connie (Chris) Mailloux-Ortner. He will forever be remembered as the most amazing Granddad of Tim (Pam) Seney, Joshua, Kristyn and Jocelyn Wright and Great Granddad to Declan and Rilyn Seney.

Doug was born in Tecumseh Ontario on June 27, 1938 at home on their kitchen table. He was the first born son of Hormidas and Florence (nee Beausoleil) Mailloux (both predeceased). He had a special bond with his brother Ron (Joyce) Mailloux (LaSalle) and his sisters Elaine (Ray) Guilbeault (Belle River), Darlene (Alex) Fraser (Cape Breton) and Jane (Don) Van Nood (Haliburton) and brother-in-law of Derrick (Julie) Baines.

Doug was a humble man full of love, strength and encouragement. He said he felt he hadn’t accomplished much in life because he wasn’t an educated man and yet he was an Engineer, a Truck Driver, a Mold Maker, an Ambulance Driver and Manager but he always said the greatest accomplishment in his life was being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. To him there was no greater treasure in the world.

He started working at International Tools in the mold making trade. If you knew Doug at all, you would know, he never did anything half way. He always took tremendous pride in everything he did. He could tell you the depth of a mold he built for a licence plate was 1 1/1000th of a mil and that it took 6 hours for him to complete. He would always beam with pride at his accomplishments. He later worked at Chryslers driving transport truck for many years. After retirement Doug and his wife Margaret started their own statuary business called Concrete Treasures in Maidstone where they have lived for the last 48 years.

Doug was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9226 and Third Degree and Warden for several years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2097 Marentette Assembly, 4th Degree and former Commander of the Dean Wagner Assembly.

Dad’s cancer journey was an extraordinary one. Over a year ago, the doctors gave him 2 to 3 months to live with advanced pancreatic and liver cancer but Doug was a miracle! We were told 1 in 3 people would respond to the chemo and thankfully Doug was the 1. His pain was well managed during of his battle with cancer until the end. He wasn’t without his issues through the rounds of chemo but he was truly remarkable and never complained. As time went on, his body grew weaker and chemo was no longer an option. He was a warrior, always telling us everything would be ok but who knew how difficult it would be to see a loving wonderful man’s heart stop beating.

The words thank you do not seem to be enough to express our deep gratitude to the RAAMP Clinic Dr. Wassim Saad and Samantha Phillips, Physician Assistant for the truly amazing care and compassion they showed us during our visits. To Dr. Elfiki at the Cancer Centre Windsor Regional Hospital who gave Doug chemo, followed his progress closely and did his best to give us more time with him. To Dr. Burgess, Hospice & the LHIN for answering our questions and guiding us through this difficult process and to Gena Grenier, the home care nurse, who went above and beyond in caring for Doug, calling and checking on her breaks, she became part of the family. We were so blessed to have had such a strong team helping us through Doug’s cancer journey.
