Obituary for Dr. Allan Warwaruk

Al Warwaruk played the perfect round of golf that ended at 83 years young!

1st Hole – A tee shot straight down the fairway, when he was born August 31,1938 in Dauphin, Manitoba, grew up in Glenavon, Saskatchewan, predeceased by his parents, Steve and Jean, brother Larry and grandson, Kevin Siddall

2nd Hole – Chipped the ball with the pure athletic talent that he had throughout his life in high school/university baseball and football, mastering curling as the Skip, and showing promise as a great golfer, improving at Beach Grove, and progressing to a passion for golfing for more than 40 years at his beloved Essex Golf and Country Club....if he could just play another 18 holes!

3rd Hole – A wonderful approach shot, graduating from the University of Saskatchewan Medical School in 1961

4th Hole – A blind shot that cleared the trees and landed on the green when Al met his wife, the love of his life, Twyla Kelleher, RN, in 1959 when he was a 3rd year medical student, helping Twyla manage a patient’s IV

5th Hole– A perfect lie, inches from the hole with Medical Internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Flint Michigan, 1961-1962

6th Hole – Lining up the putt, with Medical Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University 1962-1966, and during this time, he was Chief Resident at Receiving Hospital, Detroit, Michigan

7th Hole - A HOLE IN ONE! when he married Twyla October 13,1962 in Brandon, Manitoba (Twyla’s home town) and made their home in Windsor, Ontario

8th Hole - What a SHOT! A dogleg right, perfectly played with a perfect fade shot with the births of his pride and joys...
his 5 daughters, Alayne (Alec) Main, Joslyn (Dave) Lefler, Tamara (Joe) Siddall, Erin (Dave) Stimac and Shelby (Marino) Colarossi

9th Hole - Consistent strong tee shot with a brilliant Medical Career – Chief of OB at Hotel-Dieu Hospital, delivered over 20,000 babies in 37 years both at Hotel-Dieu and Met, pioneered the teaching of UWO Medical Residents and he also taught UWO and U of Windsor Medical Students. He LOVED being a physician right up until he fully retired at age 78

10th Hole - dogleg left, striking the sweet spot with 17 grandchildren he adored

11th Hole - a bogey with the Main Family – Derek (Destiny), Sasha (Rory)

12th Hole – a par with the Lefler Family - Luke (Nicole), Matthew (Karli, Karter, Emmett), Lauren (Greg)

13th Hole – a double bogey with the Siddall Family - Brooke (Casey), Brett (Emelie), Mackenzie (Phil), Kevin (1999-2014)

14th Hole – an eagle with the Stimac Family - Joey, Nicky, Charlie, Lucy, Jonny

15th Hole – an albatross with the Rohrer/Colarossi Family – Will, Rocco, Harrison, Vanessa, Serena and Ella

16th Hole – a bank shot with his deep faith and with his lifelong friendships including medical colleagues, golfers and friends at Essex

17th Hole – a mulligan for when he was immersed in cooking, reading and mastering daily crosswords in his favourite newspaper, the Detroit Free Press

18th Hole – FORE! He cherished the annual Essex Wassail Bowl every Christmas with his whole family

19th Hole – What a great round! Let’s celebrate!

On Monday, October 25, 2021 reservations and personal face coverings are required to attend visitation from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor.

In memory of Al, if so desired, please make donations to The Hospice of Windsor & Essex County Inc. or to Corpus Christi Parish Building Fund. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors, and everyone else who was involved in caring for Al.
