Obituary for Edward Harold "Eddie" Carey

Edward Harold Carey, 78, of Windsor, Ontario passed away on Monday, February 20 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Eddie was born on December 6, 1944, to Edward and Jean Carey in Windsor, Ontario. After graduating from W. D. Lowe, Eddie worked for the Ford Motor Company as a steam fitter and plumber for 39.7 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary Carey (nee Garswood) (2009), his father, Edward (1966), and his mother, Jean (2019). Eddie is survived by his loving sister Marlene, his nephew John (Amanda), his niece Michelle (Harold), his brother-in-law Adam, and a great nephew Jacob and four great nieces Kayla, Ellie, Aubree and Charlotte.

Brother Eddie was a distinguished Mason, a member of Great Western Lodge No. 47 (Initiated April 10, 1997; Passed May 22, 1997; Raised June 26, 1997). He served as the District Deputy Grand Master for Windsor in 2004 and was a 32 second degree Scottish Rite Mason and Past Most Wise Sovereign of Windsor Valley – Chapter of Rose Croix (18°). He was also a member of the Moramos Shrine Club and was a York Rite Mason – served on executive of Military Institute of Windsor.

Eddie was very proud to be a member of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem. Notably honoured as a Knight Templar, he was promoted to Knight Commodeur, and later appointed to the position of Grand Officier.

Eddie laid down the working tools of life as he was called to the Grand Lodge above on February 20. He left an indelible mark on his brethren and exemplified the best characteristics of a Mason, friend, brother, and leader. He gave of himself without asking for anything in return, enriched the lives of many, and will always be fondly remembered and admired by those who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor on Friday, February 24 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., which includes a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice of Windsor, a cause Eddie felt strongly about.

Eddie always greeted his friends with a chuckle and a smile. His last wish for all:
“Stay Happy My Friends.”
