Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 26, 2023 at 86 years of age. Reunited with his beloved wife of 45 years Gail (nee McIntyre) (2003). Ed was the loving father of Michael (Dianne), Bobby (Kim), Susan Leslie (Ron) and Kathy Bedard (Mike). Cherished grandpa of Daniel (Amy), Joelle (Shane), Dean (Elyse), Robert (Jessica), Alex, Erin (Sarit), Michelle (Chris), Sara (Shayne), Randi (John), Nicole (Ryan), Joel, Kurtis and Christopher (Alex). Great-grandpa of Easton, Blake, Anna, Owen, Louis, Ayla, Ryker, Samuel, Louise, Cameron, Nicholas, Benjamin, Ellie, Sawyer, Jaxon, Sydney and Rori. Ed will be missed by his sister Maryanne (the late Norman) Lee, brother Larry (Nancy) LaBute, sister-in-law Margaret (Ian) Griffiths and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Ulric and Marie (nee. Goulet) and his
siblings Kathleen Peterson, Paul Labute, Pauline (Gerald) Steinhoff and Richard Labute.

Our Dad grew up on Clover Street in the Stop 26 area of east Windsor. He was the second youngest of seven children. Dad grew up loving sports and he particularly excelled in baseball. His father Ulric was a commercial fisherman and Dad inherited the love of fishing through his Dad.

In 1958 Dad married our Mom, Gail McIntyre and by the time he was 28 he was the father of four children. He was the best Dad you could ask for. He taught us tremendous values. Kindness, a hard work ethic, generosity and family before anything else. Make no mistake he could be stern, blunt and ultra-focused but he also had a tremendous sense of humour and an extremely kind heart.

Our parents had a cottage in Stoney Point. The family’s fondest memories took place on the Lake. Summer was filled with our Dad swimming with us, towing us around the lake thousands of times on water skis but most of all fishing for perch and pickerel. Needless to say we had a very rich childhood as a result of the summers in Stoney Point.

Our parents loved having annual gatherings with the Parent and Steiner families. Although he did not see them as often later in life, he still considered them his dearest of friends.
The last number of years have been difficult for our Dad but he handled his disease with courage and dignity. He loved his family deeply and continued to share his values to his grandkids and great grandchildren.

Ed was a longtime cabinet maker and carpenter at University of Windsor and previous employee at Riverside Construction. People will also remember our Dad as a pool shark, fisherman or baseball player. He loved following sports on TV especially baseball and golf and was a diehard Toronto Blue Jay fan.

We will remember him as a very kind and funny man who kept his family safe and secure and loved our Mom dearly. They are now reunited in a very special place and will always remain in our family’s hearts.

A special thank you to the staff at Amica as well as Dr. Thulasi Shanmukanathan, Dr. Stephen Rukavina, nurses Shari Schauber and Catherine Morrison for their outstanding care.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Windsor.
