Peacefully in the early hours of Sunday November 27, 2022 at 98 years of age. Eldest daughter of Agni and Konstantinos Harizopoulos, beloved wife of 56 years to the late John Psathas, cherished Mother to Christos, Helen and Agnes. Dear sister to Nicolaos, Panagiotis, Georgios, Harilaos, Eleni and Dorothea. Dear Mother in law to the late Peter Herbert, and to Thanassis Papadopoulos. Loving Grandmother to Elizabeth (husband Kevin), Alexandra (husband Leo) and Christiana of Toronto and Ioannis and Sophia Papadopoulos of Switzerland. Great Grandmother to Theo Mastoras and Peter Parsons of Toronto. ‘Mama and Yiayia’ to the many friends who loved and cherished her.

Elizabeth was born in St. Louis Missouri, USA into a large family that flourished in America, and later returned to Greece. The early death of her father in their village of Klimataki, Grevena brought great hardship to the family, as did the onset of WW2. As a young girl she helped raise her siblings together with her mother. Eventually the family returned to America. She was a beautiful, shy, and dutiful young woman. Upon her arrival to Ellis Island she was mistakenly documented as “Eileen”, a name she grew to love as her “American” name. Elizabeth and John married in July, 1953 and raised their three children in Windsor, and were one of the founding families of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church on Ellis Street. She worked happily in the garment industry in Detroit, while creating a happy home and beautiful garden, both of which was her pride and joy. She relished life, celebrations, cooking, baking, her plants, travel, friends, laughter, and above all, her family and all the memories created over the many years. Her dedication to gratitude and finding joy in the simple things in life were an inspiration to all who knew her. Elizabeth was laid to rest in a private family funeral and is with her beloved husband at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
