Obituary for Francesca (Frances) Mandato

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother and Nonna, surrounded by her family, on March 2, 2023 at the age of 81, after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer. Francesca touched the hearts of every person she met. Reunited with her loving husband Nicola Mandato (2023), whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Proud mother of Joe (Patrizia), Anthony and Anna. Loving Nonna to Liliana, Nickolas, and Gabriela, who were her entire life and motivation. She loved and adored them so much, and was so proud of their successes. Predeceased by her parents Giuseppe and Filomena (Silverstro) DiGiorgio. Dear sister to Angela Vitarelli (Donato), Camillo 2021 (Antonietta), Irena Colella (Mainardo, 2008), Concetta 2021 (Orlando, 2011) and Giovanna Quattrociocchi (Jerry, 2004). Dear cousin of Irena Di Iorio (Pino) and Alex Silvestro (2022). Forever remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada, USA, and in Italy.

Francesca was born in Gildone, Italy on April 17, 1941 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 15. She married her husband Nicola on September 16, 1961 and started a family at the age of 21, having 3 beautiful children.

Francesca was a kind, generous and compassionate spirit to all who knew her. Her selfless acts were evident in all she did for others. She always put the needs of others before her own. She worked extremely hard her entire life. Francesca had several jobs, including dishwasher, farm-worker, hospital worker, waitress, cashier, factory laborer, seamstress, and lastly she worked as a grower with her husband at ‘Predawn Nursery’.
No matter how much time and effort she put into her work each day, her passion was to provide for her family. She always had dinner ready on the table after a long days work. She loved spending countless hours with her grandchildren, baking, and caring for her flowers. Francesca lived a life filled with determination, faith and wisdom. She was a dedicated, independent and strong woman and we are grateful and blessed to have known her unending love. She will be forever in our hearts. We know she is no longer suffering.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and doctors at the Windsor Cancer Clinic. Thank you to the doctors and nurses on the 4th floor at Met Hospital and the palliative care unit who gave exceptional care to her. In addition, thank you to the PSW community nurses for taking care of Frances and Nick every day at home.

If you so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
