Obituary for Francesca Iovino

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother at the age of 81 with her loving family by her side.

Beloved wife of 61 years to the late Giovanni. Cherished mother of Gilbert Iovino (Teresa), Sonia Iovino-Hopper (Darren), and Linda D’Aloisio (Michael). Adored Nonna of Giovanni, Matthew, Devon, Justin, Mikala and Mia. Predeceased by parents Salvatore and Vincenza Falletta and siblings Assunta, Nina and Giusto all of Italy.

Francesca was born in Lercara Friddi, Italy and immigrated to Windsor on June 6, 1966 with her husband Giovanni and son Gilbert. While raising three children, she learned to speak English and continued her education to obtain her grade 12 diploma.

Francesca ran many family businesses; from managing a restaurant to operating a construction company – she did it all. Alongside her husband, she was the backbone in building a viable construction company by managing the bookkeeping, administrative, legal and operational aspects.

Francesca enjoyed her Tuesday night bocce ball league with her many friends. She was an avid swimmer and enjoyed long walks in the neighbourhood. She enjoyed travelling around the world with her husband and friends. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking traditional Italian meals while listening to her favourite music. She was self-taught on the computer and was savvy with social media. She even had her own Instagram account and was always face-timing loved ones on her iPad.

Francesca was the matriarch of the entire family. She believed strongly in the unity of family which was apparent through the never-ending support she gave to her husband, children and grandchildren. Francesca was not only a mother and Nonna, she was also a “doctor”, “lawyer”, “financial advisor”, “teacher”, “counsellor” and “friend”. Above all, Francesca provided an unbreakable love to the entire family no matter the situation.
