Gaetana "Tanina" Caradonna

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gaetana Caradonna on October 13, 2020.

She was born on July 21, 1926 in Alcamo, Italy. She is predeceased by her husband Antonino (1986), her sons, Jack (2006), Lorenzo (2007), Joe (2014) and her sisters Anna, Guiseppa, and Angela. Survived by her son Tony (Cathy), her grandchildren Tanya (Carl), Jason (Laurie), Jennifer (Dan), Marylynn, Sandra (Bryce), and Anthony, and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lucas, Sydney, Carly and Karis. Also survived by her sister Antonina, daughters-in-law, Josie, Valerie (Jim), and Peggy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tanina immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her two children Jack and Joe, travelling for numerous days on the ship Vulcania and arriving in Halifax. She then travelled by train to Windsor to meet her husband who had arrived in Canada in 1951. This in itself was a tremendous feat considering she could not speak English. Gaetana will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind, always smiling soul who loved singing songs and rhymes from her childhood. How she could remember all the words was unbelievable. She was an incredible cook and made the most wonderful bread, pizza, sauce and cookies to mention a few. Many traditions will live on because of her.

Tanina’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Villages of St.Clair, Gosfield Neighbourhood, and Doctor Chand for the 5 years of care that was provided to her. She was always treated with love & dignity, which was truly appreciated.

Charitable donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, St. Angela Merici Church or any charity of your choice.

On Sunday, October 18, 2020, reservations and personal face coverings are required to attend visitation from 2 – 4:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841.
