Passed away peacefully on April 6, 2020 at 86 years of age. Beloved husband of 59 years to Francesca. Cherished father of Gilbert and wife Teresa, Sonia Iovino-Hopper and her husband Darren, Linda D’Aloisio and her husband Michael. Adored “Nonno” of Giovanni (Élise), Matthew, Devon, Justin, Mikala, and Mia. Predeceased by parents Giacomo and Loretta Iovino (Ognibene), siblings Salvatore and Giuseppe all of Italy and Francesco.

Giovanni was born in Vallelunga, Italy on February 10, 1934 and immigrated to Canada on June 6, 1966 with his wife and son Gilbert. He proudly started a construction company in 1973 where he initially renovated houses, built modest apartments and gradually gravitated to his true passion and skill of designing house plans from scratch and constructing custom built homes. He was respected and renowned in the business for his craftsmanship and integrity. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, making wine, playing saxophone, writing music, bike riding, swimming, travelling and spending time with friends. Giovanni supported his children throughout their lives leveraging his construction knowledge. His love of family was most apparent from spending time with his grandchildren at home including watching hockey and world cup soccer. His fondest memories were fishing at the cottage, canoeing and watching his grandchildren tubing on the water. Our family’s loss is heaven’s gain. We are sure that he is advising someone up there that the Pearly Gates are off by a “quarter inch”.
