Passed away peacefully at Extendicare Tecumseh. Devoted wife for 58 years to the late Gerard Hachey (2010). Loving mother of Greg (Diane), Alice (Dave) Wilds, Louis (Patricia), Lorraine (George) Levack, Paul (Debbie), and Jerome (Christine). Survived by her sister Helen Andrews and sisters-in-law Theresa Maini and Betty-Ann Michaud. Proud Mémé of Matt (Monique) Hachey, Mark (Christine) Hachey, Michelle Hachey (Anthony), Shawn (Lana Rae) Wilds, Shannon (Jamie) Meyer, Warren (Laura) Levack, Allen Levack, Gerard (Kim) Hachey, Michael (Starla) Hachey and of 15 great-grandchildren. After raising 6 children, Gisèle volunteered 20 years for Meals on Wheels. She was a pastoral minister for many years at St. Patrick’s Church. Gisèle rode her bicycle for 15 years to raise money for cancer. She also found time to travel and work on many municipal, provincial, and federal elections. Thank you to the staff at Extendicare Tecumseh for their loving and compassionate care.

Visitation on Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. with prayers at 4:00 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841. On Monday, February 3, 2020 family and friends are invited to meet directly at Corpus Christi Church, 1400 Cabana Rd. W., for visitation from 9:30 a.m. with Mass to begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.



Dedication to Gisèle Hachey

Mémé has always been a kind, caring patient and loving person. She put everything into whatever she started and held strong to her religious beliefs.

Mémé came from a family of 12 kids. Her dad was a truck driver and when the family moved from Montreal to Windsor, the baby drove with her parents in the front cab. The older children helped to take care of the others in the back of the transport truck where they rode with the furniture. Her love of children showed when she was a Girl Guide leader and later worked for the Children’s Aid Society. Many children were very fortunate when she taught French at St. Patrick’s school for a short period of time.

After meeting and marrying her husband Gerard, she had a full time job raising 6 children. In the early years Mémé was an avid seamstress, making shirts, dresses, pants, and even jackets. At Christmas her children always got a new outfit.

With a lot of little ones running around, she set routines and got all the kids to help her run the household. She loved to cook and make bake goods – that was the best! There were always diapers to fold, the house to keep in order, tending to the many fruits and vegetables growing in the backyard garden, laundry to hang and the list goes on. And she taught her kids that there was always time for fun. They picked up her love of games and cards. There were all those family outings, especially to the upside down ice cream cone in Old Sandwich Towne. Everyone enjoyed all the camping during the summer months.

Mémé loved to fish even though she wouldn’t touch a worm or fish! There was always someone there to help her. Mémé loved her Montreal Canadians and liked to wear her lucky jersey to watch them on Hockey Night in Canada. She also had a passion for doing jigsaw puzzles including those impossible 3D puzzles. Every time you walked into the living room you couldn’t help yourself and had to find at least 1 piece. Of course that led to another and another and another.

Mémé also loved to travel. She visited South Africa, Cuba, Australia, the Holy Land and many more destinations. Mémé got her sister Helen to drive with her. They visited the east coast. Then they went to BC and on to Alaska. Along the way they visited many people and saw what each place had to offer.

After devoting all of her time and effort raising 6 children (along with her husband), Mémé started volunteering. She spent 20 years at Meals On Wheels not only delivering meals, but also spending some time visiting with the seniors she met.

Her strong religious beliefs got her very involved at St. Patrick’s Church. She sang in the choir, did readings on Saturday & Sunday masses and eventually became a Eucharistic minister both at church and delivering the Eucharist to shut-ins.

Was she done? No. Mémé was quite the cyclist. For at least 15 years she raised thousands of dollars for the “Ride for Cancer” program.

Was she done? Not quite. Mémé volunteered countless hours on the campaign trail. She worked tirelessly for Census Canada, and for the municipal, provincial and federal elections.

Was she done? Almost. Even when Mémé entered long term care in 2012 she continued to volunteer her time as Treasurer of the Family Council and received a Certificate of Merit for motivating and mentoring the new residents entering on her floor.
Was she done? Mémé had one more thing to do. She volunteered to spend the rest of her time with those that have passed and with God. Heaven is so lucky to get another angel.
