Peacefully on May 15, 2021, at 80 years, with his loving family by his side. Beloved husband of Maria for 59 years. Much loved father of Enzo and wife Nina, Frank and wife Sandy, John and wife Tonia. Cherished Nonno of Marie (Martin), Joe (Sulbija), Dante, Frankie, Emma, Isabella, Alexia (Cristiano), Salina (Brett) and Lola. Dear brother of Gino Tartaro (Maria). Dear brother-in law of Leonard and Vita Fazio, Joe Gervasi (Diane). Giuseppe will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, both in Canada, U.S.A. and in Sicily.
Giuseppe immigrated to Canada in 1962. He and Maria married in Windsor in the same year. Giuseppe began in construction and eventually became a business man; owning the Sorrento Coffee Shop on Erie St., then moving on to owning The Riviera Motor Hotel, where he was fondly known as “Big Joe”. Giuseppe was always the life of the party, and always made people laugh with his endless jokes. He was always able to bring a smile to anyone he met, and was a great mentor to many. After retirement, Giuseppe enjoyed spending time at his home in Florida, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at WRH Cancer Centre, the LIHN care team (especially Francina and Lisa Dunn), Dr. Burgeron from Hospice and Giuseppe’s dear friend, Dr. Paul Ziter for his years of care.
If you so desire, donations to Hospice Residential Homes – Windsor or Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
