Guerrino "Rino" Pessotto

With profound sorrow we mourn the passing of our beloved father, nonno, and bisnonno Guerrino “Rino” Pessotto on July 12, 2020 at the age of 95. The work boots, shovel, and trowel have now been finally laid to rest.
Loving husband of the late Elisabetta (December 2018), dedicated father of Ivan (Piera) Pessotto, Tina (Gianfranco) Armellin, Nori (Steve) Vollmer. Proud and cherished Nonno to Ivan Jr. (Alynn) Pessotto, Elizabeth (Marco) Sperduti, Christian (2009), Matthew and Michael Armellin, Rachel (Rhys) Smith, Lauren (Lars) Fonteyne. Loved Bisnonno to Noah, Jack, and Liam Pessotto, and Carmelle and Marlon Sperduti.
Predeceased by his parents Vittorio and Luigina Pessotto, brother to the late Ilda (late Gigi) Bedana, Clelia (late Giovanni) Padoin, Bruno (late Guiseppe) Basso, Mirella (Paolo) Perencin. Brother in law to Augusta (late Otto) Camozzi. Predeceased by 8 brother and sister in laws. Loving zio and cousin to many in Italy, California, Brazil, France and Canada.

From very humble beginnings with prospects of a very unsure future, a suitcase was packed, wife and son left behind and a long boat trip led Rino to Pier 21 then on to Windsor in 1951. Even though the cards were stacked against him, with no English, and only 9 dollars in his pocket, he took the chance and forged ahead for a better life. With his strong work ethic, his determination, perseverance and willingness to work he started right away in the construction industry and was soon able to start his own successful company. This enabled him to build a wonderful life for his family and instilled the values that continue to this date to shape their lives. He was always quick to help out his children and grandchildren with whatever needed doing, whether it was a garden, shovelling gravel, or building their homes.

Later in life, nothing gave him more joy than sharing the bounty of his salatina, radicchio, fennel, beans and especially his tomatoes with family and friends. He was very proud of his winemaking skills where his fruit cellar was always filled with his demijohns and canned tomatoes. He loved to spend many mornings studying his stock market picks, working on his sudoku, and gardening. Many afternoons were spent at the Caboto Club playing briscola, scopa, enjoying a game of bocce, drinking his one espresso and conversing with his friends.
Many thanks to all the remarkable caregivers who helped in caring for our dad at home and at Oak Park. We would not have been able to care for our dad in this manner if it was not for our wonderful, very compassionate and loving caregiver Josie.

If you so desire, a memorial donation may be made to the Italian Canadian HandiCapable Association or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841. A private funeral with the immediate family will be held. He will be laid to rest at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
