Obituary for Helen Florian (nee KOTELES)

Aged 83 years on December 26, 2022. Beloved wife of Tibor Florian of Windsor, dear mother of John (Silia Paulozza) Florian of Bolton, and Catherine (Stuart) Robertson of Burlington. Adored grandmother of Alexander and Nicholas Florian, and Kade and Brody Robertson. Survived by her sisters Elizabeth (Anthony) Meszaros of Dearborn, and Mary (Hank) Golab of Windsor. Loving aunt to many nephews and their families. Pre-deceased by her parents Maria and Frank Koteles.

Helen moved to Canada from Czechoslovakia in 1948 with her parents and sisters, settling in Windsor. After graduating from Lowe Vocational School in 1957 Helen became the Secretary to the Detective Unit at the Windsor Police Department, followed by a posting at the City Property Department, positions she held until her marriage to Ted in June 1960. The next few years saw relocations with Ted’s job, and Helen’s dream of becoming a mother was fulfilled in 1962 with the birth of John, and again in 1963 with the birth of Cathy. Their new family returned to Windsor permanently in 1965. Being a great mom was her favourite job, but when she wasn’t baking, sewing, fixing booboos, coordinating camping adventures, volunteering on school trips or helping to build and then renovate her own home, Helen worked at Windsor City Hall in various departments on and off until 1995. Over the next 3 years her 4 grandsons were born and a new generation became the lucky recipients of Helen’s unconditional love, playtime, and silly grandma jokes. Although Helen spent her last years in the Village at St. Clair, where she was looked after compassionately, she never lost her sense of humour and would often have the staff laughing. She will be greatly missed.
