Obituary for Ioan "John" Ciotea

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on April 14, 2021 at 70 years of age. Devoted husband of Maria (nee Mara) for 48 years. Beloved father of Mihaela Ciotea (Leon Walker) and Cornel Ciotea (Melissa). Adored Bunicu of Kingston, Mila, Mara and Ariana. Dear brother of Maria, the late Vasile, Ana and Viorica. He will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, friends and the Windsor Romanian Community.

John was known to be the life of every party. There was not a person who met John that did not automatically know that they had made a friend for life. From his warm smile to his contagious laugh to his hiccupping after a shot of moonshine, John’s presence in a room was undeniably tangible. John had many hobbies, including fishing and attending Romanian events within the community. He also loved to be outdoors and spent many spring days preparing this garden and fruit trees for the summer harvest – John never met a plant he could not grow. He was also a collector of sorts which sometimes earned him some eye rolls from his wife as he always came home with new treasures from his long trips on the road. But most importantly, John was a family man. There was nothing he would not do for those around him, especially his grandchildren. He loved to teach them life lessons and watch them grow and we know that he will continue to do so from up above.
