Obituary for Italia Maria Rosaria Del Duca

Del Duca, Italia
(nee Mauro)
Italia was born July 31, 1933 in Peschici, Italy and passed away peacefully November 28, 2019 surrounded by her dear family. She was predeceased by her husband Matteo (Jan 17, 2013). Italia will be sadly missed by her four children Vincent (Isabel), Joseph (Marian), Anna (Chris) and Steven (Brenda). As a loving Nonna, Italia cherished her grandchildren Laryssa (Seth), Michael, Lisa (Phil), Kelly, Lauren (1983), Ashley, David (Lisa), Alexander, Sarah and Matthew. She is survived by her brothers, Romano (the late Santina), Vittorio (Karen) and her sister Irma (the late Carmine). She is also survived by brother-in-law Giovanni (Nicoletta), sisters-in-law Carmela (the late Raffaele) and Graziella (the late Rocco) and predeceased by sister in law Angela Del Duca. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

She was an extraordinarily kind, generous and loving person who always placed her family before herself and cherished her close friends both at home and in Florida, where she spent many joyful winters with Matteo. She happily spent much of her time in her gardens, but even more time in her kitchen, always delighting in making others feel at home with countless bowls of homemade pasta. Italia was a devoted and active parishioner of St. Angela Merici since her arrival to Canada in 1953. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, enjoyed volunteering for pastoral care and was a founding member of the Scalabrini Foundation for the Poor.

Heartfelt thanks to Lola, for her extraordinary care and companionship, and Bonnie and Deb for their gentle assistance and committed care. We are grateful to Drs. Henry Fortuna and Wassim Saad, involved in her care through the years, and Royle Treatment Homecare. If you desire, Italia would appreciate donations to the Scalabrini Foundation for the Poor - St. Angela Merici Church in lieu of flowers.
