Obituary for Jela Vuković

In loving memory of Jela Vuković

Jela Vuković (née Jovičić), born on January 1st, 1956, in Smoluća, former Yugoslavia, passed away on February 19th, 2024, at the age of 68, surrounded by her devoted children during her courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

As the eldest of three siblings, Jela's love for nature, gardening, cooking, animals, family, and faith defined her remarkable life. Born to Cvijeta and Risto Jovičić, she married Ratko Vuković in 1974, creating a loving family with two children, Sanela Blagić (née Vuković) and Roberto Vuković. Her brothers, Dušan Jovičić and Stevan Jovičić, along with son-in-law Miro Blagić and granddaughters Nikolina and Magdalena Blagić, will cherish her memory forever.

Jela moved to Canada in 2001 and started a new life in Windsor, Ontario. As an active member of the Kolo Srpskih Sestara at the Gračanica church in Windsor, Jela generously volunteered her time, showcasing her culinary talents by preparing delicious kóláče and pastries for community events.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Jela enjoyed outdoor walks with her grandchildren and passed down her culinary expertise, with her burek remaining unparalleled. Her legacy lives on as her family continues to cook the recipes she so lovingly shared. Jela's compassion extended to her feline friend Lucy, whom she rescued through the For the Love of Grace program. Each morning, she cuddled with Lucy in her humble apartment, reflecting the warmth of her homely and virtuous life.

Jela Vuković leaves a profound impact, instilling valuable virtues and lessons in her children and grandchildren. We feel her absence deeply, but her spirit and love endures forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A visitation to celebrate Jela Vuković's life is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024, starting at 11 am and continuing until the time of the service at 1 pm. The gathering will be held at Families First, located at 1065 Lauzon Road, East Windsor, where friends and family can pay their respects.

Following the service, a dignified interment will take place at Windsor Memorial Gardens, providing a final resting place for Jela as her memory lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

"We watched you suffer, we saw you die, but all we could do was sit close by. You went away, we had to part — God eased your pain, but broke our hearts."
