Obituary for Joseph Wissent

It is with sadness that the family of Joseph Wissent wishes to announce his passing on December 18, 2020 at Huron Lodge, Windsor, Ontario, five days after his 95th birthday celebration.
Joe is predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara (Lafleur).
Loving father to Janet Wissent and John Wissent. Dear father-in-law to Susan Wissent (Pellett).
Grandfather to Brian Wissent, Kurt Wissent (Bobbie-Jo) and Craig Wissent (Brittney).
Proud great-grandfather to Lukas, Deakon and Jakob Wissent.
Special friend to Lynne Newton.
Son of the late John and Elizabeth Wissentz and brother to the late Katherine Hutz. Son in-law of the late Nicholas and Katherine Lafleur. Brother-in-law to the late John Hutz, Nick and Mary Lafleur and Joseph and Kathryn Lafleur. Uncle, grand uncle and great-granduncle to many nieces and nephews.
Joe was born in San Andris, Romania on December 13, 1925 and immigrated to Canada in 1935.
Joe was an active member of Christ the King Church, Knights of Columbus #4386 and Union Local 1973 and 195. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Royal Canadian Navy at age 17. He was a retiree of General Motors having worked at the Transmission Plant and was also a retiree of Windsor Raceway. In his later years he served on the Council and many other positions at Southwinds III Condo.
Joe became an avid golfer in retirement and loved to play cards.
Due to the present Covid 19 restrictions, there will be no Mass or visitation. A private funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 22.
A Memorial Celebration will be held at a future date when Covid 19 restrictions allow and it can be held safely.
The family would like to thank the staff at Season's Royal Oak Village and Huron Lodge, especially those working in the Magnolia Unit for their care, attention and kindness. Special thanks to our friend Alison Smith for her compassionate care when Dad needed it most.
