Obituary for Juanita Gertrude Year Wood

74, of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on April 4, 2023. Juanita was born on June 2, 1948, to Juanita Helen (deceased 1964) and Wilbur Howard Mulder (deceased 1966) in Harrow, Ontario, Canada. She was affectionately known as: Ma, Tiny, or Big Mama. She attended Harrow High School and went on to a distinguished career in the manufacturing industry. Her education was garnered through practical life experiences, in which, she was well schooled and studied. Juanita was blessed with three sons and at a tender age she dedicated her life to being the best mother she could be. Shortly after Monty’s birth, she welcomed Guy into the world to partner with his older brother. Her youngest son Joel completed the natural hat-trick of boys several years later. Juanita was proud of her sons because each of them blessed (and challenged) her throughout her life. She imparted her knowledge, intellect, and determination into each of them.

Juanita’s daughter-in-laws: Dr. Pamela Y. Logan (Guy) and Gina Terry (Monty) were special to her. She also forged a cherished and valuable relationship with Joel’s fiancé Natasha Anderson.

Juanita was blessed with seven grandchildren whom she loved immensely— Kyle Logan, Brett Logan, Guy Christopher Logan (deceased 2002), Gregory Logan, Evelyn Logan, Grant Logan, and Madison Willard. In addition to these biological children and grandchildren, Juanita was blessed with six goddaughters and; many other sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, and friends who she assisted, supported, guided, and loved as they journeyed through the many challenges and difficulties of their lives.

It was her mission to improve the lives of others by caring for ailing family members and friends and providing food and care to those who were less fortunate. Her generosity and dedication to helping others was always evident. She never missed a special date or an opportunity to make others feel loved.
Juanita was passionate about her involvement with the Mount Zion Full Gospel Church, Amherstburg Food & Fellowship Mission, Windsor West Indian Association, and Amherstburg Freedom Museum. Each of these organizations she supported with her time, talent, and treasure. She also enjoyed watching the news and sports. She particularly enjoyed golf; Tiger Woods was her favorite golfer. Juanita was passionate about the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Orleans Saints, and, she was a closet Detroit Lions fan. She loved listening to gospel music, and she studied God’s word every day.

One of her favorite sayings was “…what’s in the pot” a.k.a. what is for dinner. When she wasn’t filling her home with spectacular stories, warmth, and kindness, she could be found in her kitchen cooking, baking, and whipping up culinary magic.

Ma we will miss you greatly, but your legacy will endure in all of us until that time we meet again.
Juanita was predeceased by siblings Christel Lapentigny (1993) (Joe); Dorothy Moore (2005) (Carl); Oscar Mulder (2011); and Rodney Mulder (2019) (Lisa). She is survived by Marva Hurst (Maynard); dianne Smith (Leon); Joanne Baylis (Richard); Howard Mulder (Marcia); Wilbur Mulder (Cynthia); Everet Mulder (Janet); Michele Jones (James); and Brian Mulder (Elizabeth).

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that you consider making a tax deductible donation to the Juanita Year Wood Endowment Fund that supports Juanita’s favorite charities, the Amherstburg Freedom Museum and the Amherstburg Food & Fellowship Mission. https://amherstburgfreedom.org/donate/
