Obituary for Kanh Ya Nakharath

With a sad and heavy heart, the family announces the passing of beloved Kanhya Nakharath on Monday, September 7th 2020. His loving heart and unconditional support was able to affect all he came across. He was the loving father of Gemma Nakharath for 9 beautiful years and the loving husband of Hoa Doan. His family was extensive and he loved everyone unconditionally as well across countries.

In the United States, Kanhya was the beloved and precious son of Kouth Nakharath and the treasured brother to his sisters Seng Nakharath, Diana Thounsavath (Alongside Justin), Paulina Vathananonh as well as his brothers Roky Vathanonh and Rikki Vathananonh
In Canada he was the adored son-in-law to Tinh Doan and Thanh Thi Bui, and by cherished brother-in-law Quynh Doan and his the many cousin in-laws Tenyce Doan, Ritchie Doan, Winston Doan, Tien Doan, Valerie Doan, Julie Doan and Monica Doan. Kanhya was the champion nephew to uncles Hung Doan, Minh Pham, inspiration to aunties Huyen Le, Loan Doan, Lan Pham, Vivian Le and Mr. T. Although there are many unnamed individuals who were touched by the warmth and support of Kanhya, our feelings are all connected in our collective mourning and appreciation of the life he shared with us.

Kanhya’s appreciation of technology, animation, both mental and physical health was shared with those who loved him and especially his precious “Baby Pie'' Gemma. Kanhya was vocal about his mental illness and would always be authentic and genuine when asking people how they were doing and how they were feeling, knowing his own struggles he always told others that he just wanted to see them happy and would support them in finding their happiness. For Kanhya, he greatly enjoyed technology at one point being a self-owned Technology repair business and inspired many of his younger admirers to also pursue careers in things that made them happy. Kanhya was successful in inspiring Winston and Ritchie in pursuing their careers in Computer Networking Technologies and Social Work. Through exploring his own mental health issues and openly communicating it, he fostered a unique relationship within the family where they found it possible to be open and genuine about difficult emotions and struggles, he promoted this to all individuals he met as he always wanted people to be happy through whatever methods they chose.
Through his love of technology Kanhya promoted enjoying pursuing your own hobbies and enjoying the process of learning about difficult and unknown things, through animation he enjoyed his childish side watching cartoons with his Baby Pie Gemma and showed his family a different world and exposed them to new cultures.

Through talking about his struggles with mental health Kanhya inspired others to be open and discuss the difficulties they had through navigating the world as an Asian male. Throughout his life Kanhya faced many struggles due to his racial identity, often being belittled and feeling that Asian males faced open discrimination and racial inequality because of open cultural stereotypes. Kanhya wanted it to be known that he tried his best to fight his struggles with mental health. With the help of Ritchie, Kanhya tried his best to speak to doctors, seek help from psychiatrists while utilizing all resources available within the city to seek help. He sought help for many years and was always looking for ways to promote those close to him to ensure their mental health was being taken care of. He was selfless in his endeavors to promote mental health, telling others that he knew finding help is difficult but to understand that mental health can affect anyone, being willing to be a shoulder to cry on when anyone felt that they needed someone to talk to all the while enduring his own problems. Kanhya was truly compassionate and a loving person that wanted everyone to be able to live a happy life and he loved seeing his loved ones happy.

A private family visitation is to take place.
