Obituary for Kris Shawn Lawrenson

Lawrenson, Kris (aka DJ UrbanKris)

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son Kris on June 9, 2023 at 49 years of age surrounded by his family. Precious father of Lydia. Loving son of Karen (nee Potvin) and Claude Lawrenson. Beloved brother of Kimberly Lawrenson-Kattoo (Ryan). Dear grandson of the late Bea & Ted Potvin and the late Claude Sr. & Marceline Lawrenson. Will be missed dearly by his fiancé Lisa Krolicki and daughter Giovanna. Fondly remembered by Lydia’s mother Stela, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Kris received 100’s of texts, calls and visits over the last week. During his last hours he was surrounded by love and comfort of Pamela, Tre, Darren, Ian, Derrick, and so many others. Kris was larger than life, full of amazing stories, always excited about a new endeavor. He was an accomplished music recording engineer, known for his work with Eminem, and many other artists. Kris was in the music scene for 30 plus years spinning his music to sold out venues including the Royal Oak Music Theatre, Good Night Gracie’s, 5th Avenue and many more touching countless lives! Many danced the night away, while he played, he was loved and adored by everyone. He was a kind and generous soul. Kris was a vital part of the Urban Field House team and took great pride in providing high quality music entertainment for many venues. His music was a huge part of his heart, but even bigger part was his daughter Lydia. Family was the most important thing to Kris, he loved nothing greater in the whole world than his daughter. Kris was a very generous and giving person. He supported hundreds of fundraisers over the years in both Canada and the USA donating his time, sharing his love of music at major fundraisers, like the Karmanos Cancer Center and Run for the Cure events to name a few. He served as advisor for a while to the Arts Council for the Municipality of Lakeshore. He will always be remembered as a dedicated father, a loyal friend, funny, kind and well loved by many. Never to be forgotten is the unwavering support Kris received from Sarah & Steve and the entire staff of Urban Field House. During many difficult times over the last year, they were always there. The family also gives special thanks to the staff of the Windsor Regional Hospital 5th floor at Metropolitan Campus, for their kind care of our son.

Visitation on Tuesday June 20, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841. A continuation of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-11 am followed by a celebration of Kris’s life at 11am. Interment to follow.

If you so desire, in lieu of flowers the family requests consideration of a donation to the family care fund for Lydia at Families First or a donation online through “GoFundMe”.
