May 3, 1930 - June 9, 2021. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished mom, Lilia, on June 9, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born on May 3, 1930 in London, England to the late Giuseppe and Lina Zanin. As a child, she was sent to Italy at the outbreak of WWll. There, while attending school, she met her future husband, Luigi Corrado (1991) whom she married in 1950 here in Windsor. Beloved mother of Robert (Denise), Sylvia (Desi) and Edward (Becky). Nonna Lilia was especially proud of her grandchildren, Andrew (Meagan); Adam (Heba), Daniel (Katherine); and Brianna (Jacob). As a Bisnonna, she adored her pride and joy, Astoria and Luca who became her latest knitting clients. Dear sister of Ettore (Christine) of England and Luisa, aka “Zia Baby”, (late Luigi) of Chicago. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews in England, Italy, USA and Canada.
As many immigrants of her era, she was determined to make Canada her new home. Being a member of the Fogolar Furlan Club, she had demonstrated her love for the Friuli culture in many ways along with her husband, Gigi, who was an initial founding member. She was no stranger to working hard, first as a seamstress and then as a saleslady at Sears. Her many talents included cooking delicious ethnic Furlan meals and wild game specialties (thanks to Gigi’s hunting), along with a love and special skill for sewing and knitting. FYI everyone in our family is proud to be the owner of a “Lilia original”! Special thanks to Dr. Roxanna Chow for her many years of dedicated care. The family would also like to extend their most sincerest appreciation to all of Lilia’s recent caregivers at WRH Met Campus 5th/6th floor nurses, especially Pierina and Lori and to Dr. Cox and Dr. Meloche for their assistance and professional care. Many thanks to all the PSW workers and Amy’s Helping Hands who were a very valuable asset to Mamma and her family.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
