Obituary for Louis Bertoia

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Bertoia on January 21, 2021 at the age of 61. Louis was many things to many people, but above all he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband to Susan (nee Magri) with whom he shared 40 years of cherished memories. He was a dedicated father to Louis and Laura (nee Biafora), Beatrice and David Costante, and Domenic and Leesa (nee Santarossa). An exceptional Grandfather to Louis, Analisa, Giuliana, Francesco, Claudia, Adriana, Isabella, Sophia, Amalia, Domenic, and Gioia.

Cherished son of the late Licinio (2000) and Beatrice Bertoia (Joe Evola). Devoted son-in-law of Domenico and Amalia Magri. Loving brother of Alfonso and Marisa Bertoia and Angela and Joe Santarossa. Special brother-in-law to Arthur and Jo-Anne Magri and Angelo and Diane Magri. A proud and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a remarkable and trustworthy confidante to countless friends.

Louis was a successful entrepreneur having started and sold many companies throughout his career including Honey-Bee Sanitation, Centreline Equipment Rentals, and most currently The Storage Box, just to name a few. Louis took great pride in moulding these business ventures into the successes that they were alongside his father, his brother, and his children. He always told his children that, “If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.” He believed in every one of his employees and business partners and motivated them to achieve their personal goals.

Louis had a presence that everyone was drawn to, and a passion for life. His loyalty to his family was fierce and he made it a point to surround himself with his loved ones always. Whether it be a Wednesday dinner with the Bertoia 19 that always included an energetic and competitive game of hide-and-go-seek with all 11 of his grandkids, cheering them on at all their sports events, or passing along well thought out and detailed advice to all, whether you wanted to hear it or not.

Louis had a zest for travelling, and always brought back with him stories of his experiences, a new food palette for all of us to try, and a suitcase filled with cheese. From skiing the slopes, to exploring a new city, to romantic getaways in Europe, and the numerous trips to their second home in Florida where there was always an open door and warm welcome for their kids, grandkids, family, and friends to join them in making wonderful memories. When at home, Louis could be frequently found outside on his favourite lawn chair or working hard on his next great idea, pausing often to greet all the neighbours and familiar faces walking by.

Thank you to all the nurses and doctors on the fourth floor and in the ICU at Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus. We will forever be grateful for your dedication and drive to provide Louis with the utmost care. A heartfelt thank you to the nurses who held his hands and comforted him when none of us could.
His intelligence, wisdom, and kindness will forever live in his family’s hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Autism Ontario Windsor-Essex Chapter or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated by the family.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and limitations on public gatherings, a private family visitation and funeral service will take place at Families First, South Windsor. On Wednesday January 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., a livestream link of the Funeral Service and final committal prayers at Heavenly Rest Cemetery will be available on Louis’ online profile.

Friends and family are encouraged to join us at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 594 (5030 Howard Ave.) at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday to gather for a farewell drive past tribute at Louis’ final resting place. Please see further details below.
