Obituary for Maria Mikha (Briki)

With utmost sadness and very heavy hearts, we announce the passing, of our beautiful Mother, Wife,
Yiayia, Sister, Aunt, and Best Friend, Maria Mikha (Briki), on February 10, 2023. Maria passed away
peacefully in her home with her children and husband by her side.

Maria will forever be missed by her two children: Panayota Gavrilidis (Mikha) and Michael Mikha and
by her beloved husband, Elia Mikha who she was married to for 51 years. Maria will be missed
tremendously by her three loving grandchildren: Alexandra Maria Gavrilidis, Elias George Mikha and Maria
Angela Mikha.

She thought the world of her grandchildren and vice versa; they were her pride and joy. The love she had
for her family knew no bounds. She was always selfless, caring, loving, compassionate, wise, and
everyone’s safe space. Her strong faith was inspiring to many. She had a contagious smile and laugh that
would light up every room and every heart she touched. Maria loved, valued, and appreciated her
son-in-law, Stavros Gavrilidis, and her daughter-in-law, Eleftheria Mikha (Kourletakis). They would do
anything for her and loved her like their own.

Maria had a zest for life and a passion for fashion. She loved cooking and gardening and she worked
extremely hard her entire life to take care of her home. She looked forward to watching her favourite
Greek TV shows. There was not a day that went by without talking to or thinking of her children and
grandchildren. Her main priority throughout her entire life was to love her family unconditionally and
wholeheartedly. Maria made sure her loved ones knew the importance of family by celebrating holidays
and religious feasts, supporting and loving each other always, and also travelling together to create lasting
memories.

Born in Kastritsa, Ioannina, Epirus, Greece on October 9, 1939, Maria lived a wonderful and loving life
with her parents and siblings. She was the cherished daughter of Lambros and Panayota Briki and the
sister of six siblings: Theodora (late), Giorgos, Vasiliki, Fotis, Efstathia, and Areti. Maria was adored and
cherished by many nieces and nephews along with many other relatives, friends, and family. Growing up,
Maria became a very successful and renowned hairstylist in Greece. Although she emigrated to Canada in
1973 and enjoyed her life here, a big part of her heart has always been with her family in Greece as well.

Maria’s children, Panayota and Michael, always did everything they could to help their beloved mother,
Maria, and they loved her with all their hearts and soul. She in return did the same for her children.

Her grandchildren were the jewels of her life and she adored them every day. She greatly looked forward
to spending time with them and talking to them every chance she got. Her grandchildren adored and loved
her so very much.

Her loving husband, Elia, was always dedicated and devoted to his wife, was always by her side, and
loved her immensely.

Every life that Maria touched has undoubtedly been enriched and nurtured with love. Her family, friends,
and loved ones will never forget the tremendous impact that Maria has had on their lives and will carry
her teachings, guidance, and love forever. She had a heart of gold and the most beautiful soul.

Mama, Yiayia, Agapi mou, we will always love you and miss you with all our hearts. We know you will
be watching over us forever and your love and spirit will always shine bright to guide us and to protect us
always. We will forever keep you in our hearts; may your memory be eternal. You will always be our
angel.
