Obituary for Marilyn Girard (nee Karn)

Surrounded by love from her family, Marilyn entered her eternal home on July 8, 2023 at the age of 79. Devoted mother to Tammy Stone and husband Michael, David and wife Nicole. Proudest Grandma to Logan, Grant and Gage. Predeceased by parents Evert Grant and Gertrude Elizabeth Karn (nee Gunner), infant sister Beverly Ann and brother Alan Grant. Survived by her brother Robert W. Karn and wife Ruth, Rodney ON and nephews Bruce, Grant and Jeremy and their families.

Marilyn graduated from the Brantford General Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 and nursed at Metropolitan Hospital and the Ford Motor Co. in Windsor. In 1986, having not played the organ for over 20 years, Marilyn returned to her love of music and faithfully served as an organist in various Catholic churches in the area. Even with work and being a single mom she always had time to be a pillar of support for her family and many friends. There wasn’t a birthday or special anniversary she ever missed.

Marilyn’s life was centred on a personal relationship with God and trusted Him in every situation. She prayed daily, not only for her own struggles but also for those about whom she cared. Fuelled by her firm foundation of faith, Marilyn faced every obstacle with resiliency, tenacity and humour. Even with many health challenges throughout her life she remained positive, trusting that God would work everything out for good. She found a way to be thankful in every situation. She enjoyed simple blessings like lively chats with friends, beauty in nature and the delight of pets.

But nothing brought her more joy than being part of her children’s lives and becoming a grandmother. She had immense pride for her children and grandchildren. There was no louder fan in the stands than Grandma Marilyn. More importantly, she celebrated each of her children and grandchildren as a unique and precious person.

Marilyn will be forever remembered for her legacy of faith, gift of music and devoted love for family and friends.

A special thanks to the extraordinary staff at the Erie Shores Hospice who compassionately cared for both Marilyn and her family during their last few days together. It was a tranquil environment full of blessings that allowed them to finish the journey peacefully.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Erie Shores Hospice or Our Lady of Assumption Church Organ Restoration project.
