Obituary for Mary Ann Wachna

Mary Ann Wachna, Age 95 passed away peacefully in the care of her loving children at her home on March 23,2024.

Beloved wife of the late Boris (1998). Loving mother of Catherine, Christine Spearin(Andre), Robert (Janice), Diane Buksa(Bill 2014), Alan, Melanie Nestorowich (Mark) and Jean Bondy (Roger 2021).

Loving grandmother of Larissa, Alexander, Zachary, Julia, Bonnie, Cassandra, John, Andrew, Alissa, Danny, Laura, Chrissy, Victoria, Nick, Max, Justine, Nina, Maisey and Grant.

Adoring great Babchi of 12.

Mary Ann had many different names. Mary, Min, Minnie, Auntie Minnie, Mary,Mom, Mama, Babchi. She lived life fully and happily everyday, often saying that there was never enough time in the day.

She was born January 24, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her parents the late Michael and Katerine Gapa moved to Windsor when she was an infant. She grew up in Windsor and met the love of her life Boris. They were married July 1, 1950. They had 7 children together and then in 1971 moved to the Farm in Harrow.

Mary Ann loved living on the farm, especially all the animals. She loved using the fresh eggs from the chickens for making her prize winning Chiffon cake.

Mary Ann had the sweetest smile and bluest sky blue eyes. She hummed when it rained and always thought positively, thinking of flowers blooming after. .Throughout her life she shared love and kindness to everyone she met. She could always find a ray of hope whenever things looked bad.

She was a lifelong member of Sts. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was known for wearing the most beautiful hats and sitting in the front row in church.

Mary Ann received the most loving and attentive care from PSW’s Jill, Denese, Paulina, Tina, Lisa and Ken. The family is very grateful for the excellent care.

As an expression of sympathy the family is requesting donation to the Sts. Vladimir and Olga Church Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements will be from Family First funeral home on Dougall Avenue Windsor on Wed. March 27th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm with Panachyda at 7:15pm. Funeral on Thursday March 28th at Sts. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church visitation at 10am, Order of Burial at 11am. Interment at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
