Obituary for Mary "Pauline" Patterson

June 20, 1937- February 25, 2023

On February 25, 2023, Mary Pauline Cecilia Patterson (née Arsenault) silently passed on from this world to join her beloved Don.

Pauline was born in Summerside, PEI, to Bridget and Wilbert Arsenault. She was predeceased by her sisters Adele and Yvonne and brother Elmer, with whom she was particularly close. Pauline is survived by her loving sisters Melba and Helen (Harold) and brother Theodore (Monique), step-children Pat (Tom), Sandi (Ollie), Rod (Sheila) and their children and grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her namesake great-grandniece Charlotte Cecilia.

For many years, Pauline ensured the Arsenault family stayed close, often visiting her sisters and brothers and bringing them together in person and on the phone. To most of her siblings she was a little sister, but to Helen she was a big sis, loving but sometimes annoying, yet they remained close all their lives. Most of her nieces and nephews called her Aunt Pauline or Ma tante, but to Donna she was Godmother. Todd will always think of her as Peach Pauline, an incorrect answer to a trivia question. But after marrying Don, Pauline forever became Aunt PP, being a good sport about teasing from cheeky teenagers.

When Pauline and Don met, they fed each other’s love for fun, family, and friends. She loved her time with the Patterson siblings and their families, especially her talks with “little Audrey”!

She made every holiday special, especially Christmas when she would inevitably start singing “Well, the weather outside is frightful” and dance around the kitchen -- the traditional Acadian place of family. Indeed, Pauline made every day special, making friends wherever she went just by being herself because she fit into every social circumstance. When visitors arrived they would soon be wearing a crazy hat while enjoying an evening of fun and laughter. Pauline enjoyed her time with her Ladies’ Card Club, the Friday night “Cuckoo Birds,” neighbours Steve and Erna, and the St. Matthew’s Parish.

She was a tireless volunteer in the community, working with such groups as the Lion’s Club and Hospital Auxiliaries. Her days volunteering at the Glenwood School kindergarten classes were especially dear to her heart!

Pauline’s family thanks the magnificent staff at Huron Lodge. You are all champions!

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In memory of Pauline, wear a crazy hat, sing a silly song, and raise a glass!
