It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Michael Kokavec on October 4, 2020 at 68 years of age. He passed peacefully, holding the hand of his loving wife and surrounded by his children. Cherished husband of Lubica for 41 years. Treasured father of Mike and wife Leslie, and Veronica and husband Derek Bryksa. Devoted Grandpa of Olivia, Carson, Kylie, Mila and Blake. Predeceased by his loving mother and father, Vilma and Michael. Dear brother of Igor and wife Kvetka, Peter and wife Kathy, and the late Jan (1951). He will be sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and dear family and friends, many of whom are in Slovakia.
Michael was born in Bratislava, Slovakia, where his roots ran deep and he met the love of his life. In 1986, the family moved to Canada and established a life in Windsor Ontario. Michael worked at Ford Motor Company for 29 years as a Systems Engineer. A smart and analytical thinker, he instilled in his children a strong work ethic, discipline, and drive. He was a selfless and giving father and family man, always putting the needs of others ahead of his own. Michael loved his five grandchildren dearly and loved teasing them and making them laugh.
Prior to his illness, Michael was always known to be the life of the party, enjoying good humour and making people laugh. He loved to travel home to Slovakia, where he spent time with his extended family. As much as he loved his home land, you will not find someone who was more proud to be Canadian and truly believed Canada was the best country in the world. For the past several years, he was learning Italian and wished to travel Italy in retirement. An avid hockey fan, Michael thoroughly enjoyed taking part in conversations about all things hockey, particularly the Windsor Spitfires.
We will remember Michael as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and as a family we will carry him in our hearts until we meet again.
Special thank you to Dr. Natalie Malus and her team at WRH-Ouellette Campus, ICU for their outstanding care and compassion. If you so desire, donations to the Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus- ICU department would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place. On Thursday, October 8, 2020 reservations and personal face coverings are required to attend visitation from 3-5 and 7-9p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841.
