Obituary for Nel Anne Yaworsky

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nel Anne Yaworsky, nee Karlechuk, on May 1, 2022. Nel was born on August 18, 1923 in Sandwich, Ontario to Georgi and Marie Karlechuk. Predeceased by her parents, husband Morris, brother William, sisters Victoria and Julia, and daughter Arlene. Survived by and sadly missed by sister Olga, daughter Venia, son Ronald, daughter-in-law Elena, and beloved grandchildren Lawrence, Alessia and Katrina, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In 1944, Nel was introduced to Morris by her future sister-in-law Effie, while he was on leave from the RCAF; they married in 1945 upon his return from overseas service. Soon afterwards, Morris and Nel moved to Alberta, where they welcomed the birth of Venia, followed by Arlene. In 1951 they were happy to return to Windsor to be closer to the Karlechuk and Yaworsky families. Nel always kept busy and creative with crafts, ceramics, Ukrainian pysanky, gardening, quilting, sewing and baking. Holidays and visits from family and friends were her favourite times when all gathered to enjoy her delicious pyrogi, holubsti and baking. She kept active well into her 80s, often amazing her bowling team and even winning most-improved trophy!

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Extendicare Tecumseh, with special thanks to her nephew Walter, his wife Gloria, and dear friend Charlene for their love and care. Donations in her memory may be made to the WESUN fund (Windsor Essex Supporting Ukrainian Newcomers).

Visitation and prayers Friday, May 6, 7-9 pm at Families First, 3260 Dougall Avenue, Windsor; with the funeral service Saturday, May 7, 11 am at Sts. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, 601 Lake Trail Drive, Windsor.
