Obituary for Nicola Antonio (Nick) Mandato

It is with deepest sadness, and with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our wonderful husband, father, and nonno, surrounded by his family, on February 22, 2023 at the age of 80, after fighting a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. His passing leaves a huge void in the lives of many.

Beloved husband to Francesca (nee DiGiorgio), whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Cherished father to Guiseppe (Patrizia), Anthony and Anna. Loving Nonno to Liliana, Nickolas, and Gabriela, whom he adored so much and was so proud of all of their accomplishments in their lives. Predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Anna Maria (Virginia) Mandato. Dear brother to Tony Mandato (2022) (survived by Jan) and Maria Ferraro (Giovanni). Predeceased by his Zia Filomena Vitale (Michele) and Zio Tony Mandato (Sarah). Close cousin to Maria Carriero (Alessandro, 2022), Nick Mandato (Ohio), Ginny Simons (David, USA), Concettina DiBiase (Nick, Italy), and brother-in-law of the DiGiorgio families. Zio to many nieces and nephews in Canada, USA, and in Italy.

Nicola was born in Campobasso, Italy on August 18, 1942 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 11. He married his wife Francesca on September 16, 1961 and started a family at the age of 21, having 3 beautiful children.

Nicola was a very hard working self-employed entrepreneur. Throughout the years, he was a handy man and had many talents. A butcher, carpenter, electrician, truck driver to name a few, but his heart, soul, and passion was his love for gardening. He loved to plant and was most proud of his successful Nursery and Garden center ‘PreDawn Nursery’, where he worked extremely hard the majority of his life to provide for his family. However, none of his talents compare to how good, kind-hearted, and friendly he truly was. He made friends wherever he went. His devotion to hunting was known by all who knew him. He treasured all the many life long memories hunting with his crew ‘Forza Lupi’. He especially enjoyed entertaining and being amongst family and friends all the time. He was a very intelligent man who taught us the many important things we needed to know to build a foundation for our future.

A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses on the 4th floor at Met Hospital who provided exceptional care. We are grateful for the time we had with him and know that he is no longer suffering.

Nicola will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Forever in our hearts he will be.

If you so desire, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
