Obituary for Nicole Moussallem

Nicole Moussallem, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and accomplished linguist, died peacefully on July 15, 2023. She was 59 years old. Nicole was born in Beirut, Lebanon, the second of five children of her late parents. Nicole was preceded in death by her beloved father (Faouzi Assaly), mother (Marguerite Assaly), and brother (Charbel Assaly).

Nicole was as gregarious as they come, with an amazing sense of humor. She loved her family dearly — they were the light of her life. She obeyed God’s law. Nicole enjoyed hosting large dinners for friends and family where she served delicious meals and stimulating conversation. She touched the lives of everyone that she interacted with, each person with their own unique story, displaying her radiance, strength, intellect, and humor. Her soul touched every person: she comforted some, brought joy to others, and displayed courage and strength to everyone. As strong as she was throughout her life both physically and mentally, Nicole met her match when breast cancer entered her life three years ago. Cancer is indiscriminate in those who it takes. Nicole fought it with every ounce of energy she had and with the tireless support of beloved family and friends; she was a fighter. The brutal truth is that her body could no longer carry on. Nicole’s untimely passing is devastating. But she expressed her sincere wish that her friends and family would not allow their sadness to displace their love and fond memories of Nicole. She wanted us to celebrate her life and for her to be remembered for all the joy and laughter she brought to our lives.

Nicole is survived by her beloved husband Andrey; daughters Andrea (and James), Christina (and Soroush), and Michelle; siblings Rita (and Walid), Issa (and Mirna), and Viviane (and Naji); as well as nephews and nieces. Her daughters will continue to live by the values that she instilled in them: love others as well as to fear and trust in God.
