Obituary for Patricia Mayea (nee Wardell)

She was beautiful. She was kind. She was brave. She was absolutely amazing. It is with shattered hearts, but endless memories, that we announce that this world lost “one of the best” on Monday, January 11th, peacefully, with her loving daughters by her side at 63 years of age. Pat was an incredible mom to Melissa Mayea and Cheryl (Jon) McDonald. She was the adored “dancing- in-the-kitchen”, “playing-on-the-floor”, “saying-yes-to-anything”, grandmother “Mamma” to Jakob and Travis McDonald. She is welcomed into heaven by her loving parents, Bruce (2014) and Jean Wardell (2020). Pat was the cherished sister of Linda (Gary) Bell, Dave (Chris) Wardell, Janice (Paul) Bouteiller and Sharon Beaudoin. She was the loved aunt to Samantha (Cory) Meyers, Danielle (Jim) Bouteiller, Nicole (Eric) Bouteiller, Eric (Mary) Bouteiller, Cari (Nick) Beluli, Kim (Thaddeus) Molnar, Kris (Jay) Near and Cassie (Justin) Balint, all of whom she loved like they were her very own children. As a person that was so easy to love, Pat leaves a lifetime of beautiful memories with close friends, Pam Lee, Beth Zaitz, Mitzie Subotin, Nada Borcic, Sandy Boehm, Dave Berthiaume, Dave Mayea, Glenn Delisle, all of her golfing, darting and curling friends and many more. As well as friends throughout her career at the Board of Education, QSS and Miller Canfield LLP.

Although her time with us was cut far too short, she taught us to work hard, live with adventure and love genuinely. Many have had the opportunity to make memories with Pat among her many travels around the world (and to Bayfield), especially her sisters and her daughters and son. Pat was the most selfless person we have ever known. Always putting the needs of everyone ahead of her own, even in her greatest time of need. Just over a year ago Pat’s recovery from a serious illness was deemed a miracle. Since that time, she showed bravery with every setback, and took each day with incredible optimism and a grateful smile. They say you truly don’t know how much you love someone until they are gone. Having nearly faced the reality of possibly losing her, we have had the gift of loving harder, living fuller, and we treasured each day with her.

Thank you to the all of the nurses and doctors in the ICU and 8th floor of Ouellette Campus, especially Mary Cunningham and Dr. Bagga. Until the day when we can all golf, craft, hug, kiss, laugh, hear “love you, Hun” or “love you, Bella” again, please look over us, as we miss you dearly already.

In true nature of Pat’s selflessness, donations in her honour, can be made to the Windsor Essex County Humane Society, Kidney Foundation/Windsor & District Chapter or Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation – Neurology.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and limitations on public gatherings, a private family visitation and service will take place. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date when we can hug. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Families First,South Windsor. Pat’s family is strongly encouraging everyone to share memories and photos on this web page.
