Obituary for Peter Elford, P.Eng.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peter Elford at age 62 on June 17, 2023 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Loving husband of 39 years to Elizabeth (nee Caruana). Cherished son of Ruth and the late Elmer Elford. Devoted father to Lauren (Eric) and David (Barb). Proud Grandpa to Ella. Dear brother to Ian (Rowena) and Carson (Kay). Beloved Uncle to Victor, Grace, Jayne, Cole and Eve. Esteemed son in law of the late Gaetano and Maria. Treasured friend to Jody, Sheldon, Patti, Bev and Jim. Dearly missed by his dog and constant companion Tegan.
Though it was much too short, Peter lived a full and adventurous life. He was a Professional Engineer at Papp Plastics, respected by colleagues and mentor to many. His career took him around the world and made for countless captivating stories. In his younger years he was part of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, enjoying skydiving and flying planes and gliders. He was a passionate outdoors man and couldn’t wait every spring to get out on his boat to catch pickerel in the Detroit River. He was also an inventive handyman. He could fix anything and even built his own hovercraft! Above all he was an incredible husband, father and grandfather devoted to his family in everything he did. He was one of a kind and always had a dad joke in his back pocket. He faced life and its challenges with exemplary optimism and was always the man to go to if you had a problem. Words cannot express how much he will be missed. He will forever be in our hearts.
