Obituary for Richard Allan Whittle

July 13, 1939 – July 17, 2020
Peacefully, on July 17, 2020 at 81 years of age. Loving husband of Joanne for 57 years. Devoted father to Kathy, Tammy (Ken), and Patrick. Dedicated grandfather to 5 grandsons, Joshua, Daniel (Chantelle), Benjamin, Jonah, and Ryan. He has 2 great grandsons, Landon and Noah. He is predeceased by William and Hilda Whittle, brother William (Bill) Whittle and mother-in-law Edith Rice.

Our family is saddened by the loss of a wonderful man. His laugh will be missed. A successful business man who took care of others. He was a talented golfer as well as an avid gardener who always maintained a beautiful garden. Richard “Dick” loved to be involved and was a member of Beach Grove Golf and Country Club, the Rotary Club, Southport Sailing Club, and others.

Growing up in “the village” across from Beach Grove, he had a love for life and all the many adventures it had to offer. A “caddy” at the age of 8, Richard became an avid golfer and was known around the club. He enjoyed taking his small motor boat on Lake St. Clair as a kid and continued the passion for the outdoors by taking his family on many comping trips to places in Canada and the US, all of them which are wonderful memories to his children today.

Richard and Joanne cherish their dear friends with whom they’ve shared many good times over many years. They were a “good team” to the end, caring for each other and their kids as their main priority in their lives. A true love story…

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at The Hospice of Windsor for taking such great care of Richard over the past weeks. Your kindness and support are greatly appreciated by our family. The dedication by the staff during these difficult times with a global pandemic was truly a gift. If you so desire, donations to Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated by the family.
