Obituary for Suzanne Laemers

Born on March 18, 1959, in Highland Park, Michigan and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 21, 2024, at the age of 64, after her courageous battle with cancer.

Suzanne was a loving and devoted mother to Jonathan Meyer (Lauren) and Paul Meyer (Megan), a cherished sister to Toni Laemers Cleland, Ben Laemers (Judy), Mike Laemers (Sue), and Paul Laemers, and a beloved Oma to her grandchildren, Ryan, Sophia, and Ember.

She was predeceased by her parents Johannes and Patricia Laemers, brother-in-law Bill Cleland, and sister-in-law Mary Laemers.

Suzanne found her calling as a nurse practitioner, especially in her work in palliative care with both the Hospice of Windsor and the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). She touched countless lives through her dedication and care. She believed that end of life care required not just skill and compassion, but empathy and respect.

Suzanne loved to sing, whether at home on her karaoke machine with her sons and siblings, or as part of an organized group. She greatly enjoyed being a member of the WSO Chorus, where her passion for music and community thrived. Singing tenor, her beautiful voice enriched the choir's performances. She especially looked forward to the Christmas concert each year, and singing her favourite piece, Handel’s Messiah.

Suzanne's greatest joy was as a mother to Jonathan and Paul. She nurtured her children with boundless love, guiding them with wisdom and kindness. She welcomed and embraced both her daughters-in-law, Lauren and Megan, offering them love, support, and guidance. Her legacy as a mother lives on in the hearts of her children, who carry her values forward with pride and reverence to their own children.

Suzanne cherished her role as Oma, doting on her grandchildren with unconditional love. She delighted in creating lasting memories with Ryan, Sophia, and Ember, filling their lives with laughter and joy. From trips on cruises, to walks in nature reserves, Suzanne shared with her grandchildren her sense of adventure and her passion for travelling.

Suzanne will be deeply missed by many friends and family, and remembered for her kindness, generosity, and contributions to the community.

Suzanne’s family would like to thank her many wonderful doctors, the care team at hospice, and her VON care providers for their excellent and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hospice of Windsor.
