Obituary for Thalma June Warren (Benson)

Passed peacefully April 2, 2022 at 101 years young to be with her loving husband Ernest Samuel Warren on his Birthday.

Thalma was born in Sandwich Town June 23, 1920 to William Douglas Benson and May Hodgson, followed by her little brother late Douglas (Gerry) Benson. Life was challenging as a child growing up in The Great Depression, Prohibition and The Rum Running Days in Sandwich Town but it set Thalma up for a wonderful, long life. She met her love Ernie at the Boblo Island dance hall when WWII was starting. She married Ernest in May 1942 and went on to raise five children, James (Joyce), William (Jane) , Shelley (late Neil) , Jeffrey (Linda) , Lise (late Kevin). Thalma also leaves behind 18 Grandchildren, almost 24 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Thalma had many talents and loved crafting. She was also an excellent cook, baker, canner, pickler and gardener. She was on the women's auxiliary and helped manage the cubs and scouts at Christ the King Church in South Windsor. She was the president of the bowling league at St Dominic's Parish in Oakville and was an avid bowler. Thalma loved animals of all kinds, but especially dogs and she bred dachshunds for many years. Thalma was also a member of The Mission Group in Tecumseh knitting and crafting for their many fundraising events. Thalma and Ernie had many wonderful adventures travelling throughout the world. She loved a good card game, always calling out the cheaters, especially if she wasn’t winning the game, and was an expert crossword puzzler. She knew how to throw a great party and hosted many large family and friend gatherings with lots of good food, drinks, euchre tournaments, and swimming pool fun. Thalma was a real card with her cheeky one-liners, high energy, spunky, playful personality and big heart. She will be deeply missed.

If you so desire, donations to The Hospice of Windsor/Essex, Alzheimer’s Society of Windsor, or Windsor/Essex County Humane Society would be appreciated.

On Saturday, June 25, 2022 memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of the Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. at Families First Funeral Home, 2139 Front Rd. LaSalle, 519-969-5841. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lasalle.
