Obituary for Thelma Marlene Tolson (neé Hogan)

A lifelong resident of Windsor, Thelma Marlene Tolson passed away on January 31,
2024, at the age of 79 years. The third of seven children born to Clifford and Thelma
(Conway) Hogan, Marlene is predeceased by siblings Ronald (1943), Judy (2004), George (2010), and Gloria (2018). She is the beloved wife of the late Howard E. Tolson (2018), to whom she was married for 35 years.

A descendant of freedom seekers who fled slavery on the Underground Railroad with the abolitionist John Brown, Marlene grew up in the McDougall Street corridor, graduating from J.C. Patterson Collegiate Institute. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant in the legal and business fields in Detroit.
A follower of Jesus Christ, she held memberships with First Baptist Church (Windsor), where she served as deaconess and sang in the choir, and Greater Christ Baptist Church (Detroit); recently, Marlene was an attendee at New Life Fellowship (Harrison Memorial).

A familiar face at Devonshire Mall, where she loved shopping for the latest fashions, Marlene enjoyed hanging out and socializing with the other seniors at the food court.

She is survived by her son, Darryl (Kathryn) Hogan; her grandsons, James Zimmerman, Samuel (Elizabeth) Hogan, and Matthew Hogan; and her great-grandson, Emmitt.
Marlene’s extended family, close friends, acquaintances, and neighbours will miss her.
