Rosemary....I apologize for sending this out later, but wanted to still express my deepest sympathy to you and the family. Tom was a man that other men (friends, team mates, coworkers) looked to for direction and often used him as a model for their decisions as well as a friend to share experiences with. I certainly did and am a better person for my time with him. Although separated as we took different paths, it was always a pleasure to visit him at work and try to catch up in the few minutes we had. From personal experience, I know it's a whole new world currently and there's no opportunity to share our stories and emotions....perhaps soon. May friends and family provide some solace as time attempts to heal. From

On March 2nd I lost a dear friend of 65 years, “Murf” left us all suddenly that day bringing great sadness to his family, and vast number of friends and acquaintances. The news of his passing weighed heavily on me, and I couldn’t help but think of the length of time we’ve know each other and the life we had together. From the time I met him at the age of about 5, the next 18 years of our life were spent in constant contact building a lasting friendship, we were joined very early by two great friends, Ann Margret, and Tim, and together the 4 of us had a childhood that a Hollywood script writer couldn’t capture, we ruled the world and enjoyed each other’s company immensely as true friends during those halcyon days of the late 50’s & 60’s learning of life as we grew up together.
Knowing someone for 65 years isn’t uncommon, remaining good friends with them for that length is rare. While time and distance, reduced greatly our constant contact over the last 45 years, it didn’t affect the friendship, on every occasion we had to meet, a beat was never skipped, we were back together in time, friends again with no awkward pauses or lulls in conversation, and when the 4 of us were together we once again ruled the world and often had to pause to catch our breath from laughter.
I will truly miss “MURF” just knowing he was there was always comforting. My condolences to you Rosemary and your children & grandchildren, I can feel the sadness you must all have as I’m certain he was as good a partner, father & grandfather, as he was a friend to so many of us.
The Roseland Rats will ride again “Murf” Rest in Peace, we will all meet again.

Dear Murf:
Since I first arrived on Roseland in 1958 until our last bike ride, you and I have been on many wonderful adventures together: The Roseland Rats and Bennville Bugle; the backyard rink and clubhouse; Grade 10 Chess club; Grade 12 L/M (and we know who that got you); Mosport, Mont Tremblant and Watkins Glen; weekly Club night; Turkey Open golf; Sunday night poker bbwhere is Spot?); best men at our respective weddings; over 35 years of ski trips; family camping trips; over 40 years of Ranger Lake; Toronto bike tours; wine tours; and sailing voyages.
So enjoy the new road (I know you'll be driving)...we'll be fine.
To Ro, the kids and grandkids, Jan, Mardie and Kath; thanks for sharing Murf with me.

My deepest sympathies go out Rose and your family. Murf was a class man, good friend and a long time Teammate who always calm, no matter the circumstance. Over the years , you lose touch with people but always remember games, plays and teammates. I have sat with Murph many times having a drink or two and exchanging stories. I am proud to call Murf my friend and great teammate, who never lost his cool, composure and always was a Team first guy. May this terrible time pass quickly for the Murphy family. You are in my thoughts and Prayers. From

As a teammate of Tom's, I'll always remember him as a calm, steading force. Though he loved to compete, I never saw him lose his cool. Tom got along with everybody, and everybody liked "Murf." I never heard anyone say a bad word about him. How many of us can say that.

I’m so sorry Rose and I don’t know what to say
but I’m very very sorry and so sad. I worked with Murf for
over 40 years back at Kane Hickey in the mid 70s downtown until
2018 when he retired from Dan Kane Chev. Murf always treated
everyone with respect and in those 40 plus years I can’t think of
anyone of our employees or customers that didn’t say the same thing.
Lots of great times over the years from all the dealerships activities
Golfing up in Northern Michigan he never forget the sambuca and of course all the Christmas parties.
